Technology and healthcare are always advancing and there any many new ways to improve healthcare with the way technology has advanced and we have incorporated the usage of technology in our patient care. One example that I have seen is the usage of technology being used in my practice is Telehealth; I have spoken to many of patients who mention using Telehealth at home and how much they have enjoyed using it. Telehealth or sometimes called telemedicine is defined as the remote diagnosis and treatment of a patient by the means of telecommunications technology, it allows for providers to encompass the use of technology and telecommunication systems to administer healthcare to their patients (What is telehealth?2018). Telehealth can be access through the usage of phones, apps, and computers it can provide patients with live video feeds to interact with their providers, this can help with coordinating care, sharing information, monitor vitals and medications (Harvard Health., 2020). Also, the biggest thing that everybody in our society owns a smart phones; about 77% of Americans own a smartphone and it can be used to promote better health outcomes and to increase access to healthcare; the usage of mHealth (mobile health) is healthcare applications or programs that patients can download to their smartphone devices or laptops. These applications will allow for patients to be able to keep track of their health measurements, medications, appointments, and share informations with their providers (What is telehealth? 2018). Along with smart devices and their applications there is this resource called remote patient monitoring (RPM) which helps report, collect, transmits, and evaluates a patient’s health data through their electronically devices such as wearables, mobile devices, and apps (What is telehealth?2018). 

Like all great things in the world, there are also some disadvantage to Telehealth, the biggest concern is the security of these personal apps and how much of your personal information is saved and every patient is at risk for their information being leaked out when it comes to sharing their data to a provider over the internet, it is important to make sure that the applications the patients are using has a good software to prevent this from happening. This is also goes the same for healthcare providers and viewing the patients care portals, they have to make sure that their healthcare software is update to date and protected so the patient’s information does not get shared to others. Another disadvantage is the limitation of Telehealth, while it may be great and beneficial; Telehealth does not replace a healthcare provider and not all care can be provided properly over Telehealth and even with the data provided with Telehealth it does not provide enough information compare to a in person visit with a doctor.
