How to Research and Prepare for NUR 705 Assignment 14.1: Final Project

Whether one passes or fails an academic assignment such as the ST. Thomas University NUR 705 Assignment 14.1: Final Project   depends on the preparation done beforehand. The first thing to do once you receive an assignment is to quickly skim through the requirements. Once that is done, start going through the instructions one by one to clearly understand what the instructor wants. The most important thing here is to understand the required format—whether it is APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.

After understanding the requirements of the paper, the next phase is to gather relevant materials. The first place to start the research process is the weekly resources. Go through the resources provided in the instructions to determine which ones fit the assignment. After reviewing the provided resources, use the university library to search for additional resources. After gathering sufficient and necessary resources, you are now ready to start drafting your paper.

How to Write the Body for NUR 705 Assignment 14.1: Final Project

After the introduction, move into the main part of the NUR 705 Assignment 14.1: Final Project   assignment, which is the body. Given that the paper you will be writing is not experimental, the way you organize the headings and subheadings of your paper is critically important. In some cases, you might have to use more subheadings to properly organize the assignment. The organization will depend on the rubric provided. Carefully examine the rubric, as it will contain all the detailed requirements of the assignment. Sometimes, the rubric will have information that the normal instructions lack.

Another important factor to consider at this point is how to do citations. In-text citations are fundamental as they support the arguments and points you make in the paper. At this point, the resources gathered at the beginning will come in handy. Integrating the ideas of the authors with your own will ensure that you produce a comprehensive paper. Also, follow the given citation format. In most cases, APA 7 is the preferred format for nursing assignments.

However, you need to rewrite the points and not simply copy and paste them. By restating the points from each subheading, you will provide a nuanced overview of the assignment to the reader.

How to Format the References List for NUR 705 Assignment 14.1: Final Project

NUR 705 Assignment 14.1: Final Project

For your final project, you will put together a presentation based on the research topic used throughout the course for the article critiques. Your presentation should include the articles you critiqued for the systematic article critique and the two quantitative article critiques, plus a qualitative research article critique on your topic of interest. Keep in mind your quantitative article critiques cannot be pulled from your systematic review of the literature.

Assignment Guidelines

Here is the format for the presentation:

  • Topic of interest:
  • Why the topic was chosen:
  • Overview of the topic.

Your presentation should include the following information:

  • How was the topic of interest studied in the two individual quantitative studies that you selected?
    • What variables were measured
    • The length of time of the study
    • The study design
    • The statistical analysis—what method did they use and why?
    • The results of the study
    • What are the practical implications of the study?
  • For your qualitative review:
    • Discuss the phenomenon that was studied
    • Discuss how qualitative data was collected
    • What were the themes or findings of the study?

    • What are the practical implications of the study findings?
    • How does this study lend depth to your topic of interest?
    • Based on your review of the articles, how can the research findings either prompt additional study or be used to improve nursing practice? How does the evidence you find support either of those choices?

Develop a presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint. You will submit your presentation at the end of the week. Next week, you will create a video presenting the presentation to your fellow classmates. Your presentation should not be longer than 15 minutes.

Be sure to include a reference list in your PowerPoint slides.

Introduction

Qualitative research is a different type of research design. It is data focused, but uses a different type of data. Qualitative research uses descriptive language to provide in-depth meaning and understanding of a lived experience. Qualitative research focuses on phenomena or the concepts of a topic.

Data gathered during a qualitative study are analyzed differently, as the meaning of the data provides a richness of understanding of the phenomenon or experience. Since this course has a heavy focus on statistics, you will only briefly examine qualitative research.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Understand the difference in methodologies in qualitative research.
  • Identify appropriate sampling methods in qualitative research.
  • Distinguish differences in applicability to practice between qualitative and quantitative research.

Before attempting to complete your learning activities for this week, review the following learning materials:

Sampling in Qualitative Research Transcript

This video is about sampling specifically for qualitative research. Remembering that qualitative research is really focused on words and depth of knowledge, trying to gain as much depth into a topic as possible. Your sample for qualitative research is usually purposive. Remember that that means that you’re selecting a specific group of people for a specific purpose.

If your qualitative research, you want to talk to Americans that have moved to China to teach, then you will purposely only select those people to be able to interview. This will give you that depth of knowledge. You’ll be able to draw from those people’s experiences to get the data you need for your qualitative research.

This slide shows you the different types of purposive sampling techniques, and there are quite a few of them. But you have to think about how you’re doing these sampling techniques, because this needs to be part of your methods of your research and something that you think about before you get started.

This is for qualitative research. You want to know which of these sampling techniques is going to get you the people or the participants or the cases that will give you the most in depth knowledge of the topic that you’re studying. And so there’s a number of different ways to do this. It would be really good to study this slide and even make sure to put all of these in your notes, because these are really important to know and understand at the beginning of qualitative research.
