NU 515 Discuss the sampling plan that was used in your quantitative research article?
Quantitative Research
Quantitative study is essential in statistics for the collection of data through different methods including computational tactics and questionnaires. In the article “Flemish palliative-care nurses’ attitudes to palliative sedation: A quantitative study”, the questionnaire has been portrayed as the most effective method in data collection. An effectual sampling plan provides accurate data and minimizes time in research.
Sampling plan that was used in a quantitative research article
In the article, research was carried to find the determinant factors influencing the perception of nurses on the palliative-sedation unit towards non-voluntary euthanasia. The simple random sampling plan was used in the quantitative research article. Random sampling gives equivalent opportunities for every member of the group targeted to be involved in the study (Gao et al. 2020). The sampling incorporates a high level of accuracy with minor biasness
A different sampling plan would have been better
Convenience sampling could have been utilized in the research. The method is a non-probability sampling plan utilized when the number of respondents available for a targeted population is limited (Elfil and Negida 2017). The target population was nurses working in the palliative care unit which is a small unit in the health care system incorporating a small group of professionals who are highly trained and equipped with adequate skills to take care of patients with critical health conditions.
How I can change the sampling plan to make this study more culturally diverse
Modifying the simple random sampling method into a stratified random sampling plan can make the study highly
cultural and divergent. The method helps the researcher to collect demographic information distinctively as a separate study. The method accommodates marginalized populations who could have missed in the study. In the article, nurses in different care units did not involve despite their experience.
Ethical considerations that impact sampling and subject diversity
Ethical consideration is important in selecting sampling methods for accuracy and effectiveness. Respondents should be extensively enlightened on the reason for the research and the importance of their involvement. This promotes mutual agreement between the respondent and the researcher. The sampling method should be free from psychological defacement on the respondent. The defacement that might arise includes consternation, pressure, and deprived privacy. Respondents should be allowed to participate willingly without compulsion.
