After completing the Tanic self-assessment this week, my competency level compared to the beginning of this course has significantly improved. Prior to taking advanced informatics, I was not confident in health information technology. My abilities in the pre Tanic assessment consisted mostly of competent and novice levels. After completed the post-TANIC this week, my competency evolved to proficient and expert. This evolution can be attributed to growing in areas such as medical terminology and a better understanding of health informatics literacy. Having a better understanding these concepts has giving me the confidence I did have in regards to HIT prior to taking this course. Prior to this course, I did not know how to appraise a medical app, much less how to know if the source was creditable. I was also not proficient in computer security. Throughout this course, I have gained knowledge about privacy/security, how to find and locate in through the EMR or a medical application. With some of the challenges I faced completing serval assignments, I have gained an appreciation for nursing informatics and the benefits in brings in providing effective and patient care and communication. As a future APN, I plan to stay current by participating in continuous education courses, events and educational journals.

As an ANP, being information literate will make using the EMR easy. Knowing where to find and locate the patient’s allergy information and medical history will be beneficial in prescribing safe drugs for the patient.
The second competency that will benefit my new role is information management. Information management is obtaining, interpreting, sharing and securely storing health information. This includes but not limited to, collecting and reviewing patient data, making clinical decisions using collected data, communication with other members of the interdisciplinary team. With patient privacy/protection being at the forefront of effective patient delivery, understanding how to manage patient information the important to proving patient care. The health insurance portability and accountability act (HIPPA) states, the goal of the Privacy Rule is to assure that individuals’ health information is properly protected while allowing the flow of health information needed to provide and promote high quality health care and to protect the public’s health and well-being ( Jayanthilladevi et al., 2020) patient privacy is an ethical and legal issue, as an APN becoming an expert in implementing the HIPPA standards is imperative to providing competent patient care.

After completing this advance informatics course, I can confidently say my competency level has improved in all three TiGER assessment areas. One must have basic computer skills such as turning it on/off, locating data, in other to interpret it. I have gained more knowledge in information literacy by one understanding the terminologies and two knowing how to properly utilize resources.
Working as a nurse for nine years, I have always practiced HIPPA in ways such as protecting patient privacy from other nurses or techs who are not actively caring for the patient and only giving patient information to the POA listed on the patient’s EMR. Each weekly threaded discussion is worth up to 25 points. Students must post a minimum of two times in each graded thread. The two posts in each individual thread must be on separate days. The student must provide an answer to each graded thread topic posted by the course instructor, by Wednesday, 11:59 p.m. MT, of each week. If the student does not provide an answer to each graded thread topic (not a response to a student peer) before the Wednesday deadline, 5 points are deducted for each discussion thread in which late entry occurs (up to a 10-point deduction for that week). Subsequent posts, including essential responses to peers, must occur by the Sunday deadline, 11:59 p.m. MT of each week.
Direct Quotes
Good writing calls for the limited use of direct quotes. Direct quotes in Threaded Discussions are to be limited to one short quotation (not to exceed 15 words). The quote must add substantively to the discussion. Points will be deducted under the Grammar, Syntax, APA category.
