Design –
Because the researchers were interested in the perspectives of adolescents with learning disabilities, they used a phenomenological approach in this study. The researchers wanted to know how the adolescents felt about their experiences in their own words (Rosetti & Henderson, 2013). The authors have conducted research from the perspectives of participants.
Purpose
Adolescent research is critical because they are frequently dissatisfied with their school experience and believe that their peers cannot
relate to or understand their experiences and challenges. According to the authors, this study is significant “…from a social justice standpoint” (Rosetti & Henderson, 2013, p. 5). Researchers hope to gain an in-depth understanding of the daily lives of adolescents with learning disabilities by speaking directly with them.
Focus
The goal of the study was to gather information from the perspective of adolescents who live in a different culture than their peers who do not have learning disabilities. Phenomenological studies are typically designed to examine participants’ typical life experiences and perceptions.
Data Collection Method
A Parent Education Network announcement in the San Francisco Bay Area informed potential recruits about the study. Participants were recruited through convenience sampling of identified potential recruits. Following the identification of adolescents, five were chosen at random for the research project. Each research participant received in-depth oral individual interviews. All interviews were taped and later transcribed by a service.
Data Analysis Technique
The interview transcripts were analyzed using interpretive phenomenological analysis (IPA). IPA can help researchers better understand the emotional experiences of their participants. Three raters were used to code the transcript data for this research study. Multiple raters are used to “…reduce individual research bias and increase overall validity of the results..” (Rosetti & Henderson, 2013, p. 7). The purpose of using IPA is to identify emergent themes from the experiences of adolescents with learning disabilities, which were 1) social support; 2) school experience; 3) understanding of LD/ADHD; and 4) self-advocacy in this study (Rosetti & Henderson, 2013).

However, do not rely solely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part, and your grade will suffer as a result. Use a standard 10 to 12 point typeface (10 to 12 characters per inch). Smaller or compressed type, as well as papers with narrow margins or single spacing, are difficult to read. It is preferable to allow your essay to exceed the recommended number of pages rather than attempting to compress it into fewer pages.
Large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are also unacceptable, waste trees, and will not fool your professor.
The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced, and have a one-inch margin on all four sides of each page. When submitting hard copies, use white paper and print with dark ink. It will be difficult to follow your argument if it is difficult to read your essay.
