A portfolio is a great way to for nurses to “record and provide evidence of skills, achievements, experience, development and learning, not only for themselves, but for the information and scrutiny of registration boards, employers, managers and peers” (Green, Wyllie, & Jackson, 2014, p. 8). As you collect the artifacts that best showcase your strengths, you begin to track, reflect on, and evaluate your own learning and growth over time.PREPARATION

INSTRUCTIONS
For this assessment, your ePortfolio will focus on showcasing your growth and accomplishments in the context of the following course competencies:Competency 1: Lead people and processes to improve patient, systems, and population outcomes.
Competency 3: Transform processes to improve quality, enhance patient safety, and reduce the cost of care.
Competency 6: Collaborate interprofessionally to improve patient and population outcomes.
Competency 8: Integrate professional standards and values into practice.
For each competency, complete the following in your ePortfolio:Create an area in your ePortfolio for the competency and label it with the course competency number or the competency language.
Select the two artifacts (assessments) that you feel best showcase your accomplishments or growth relative to the competency and place them in the corresponding ePortfolio area.
For each competency, write 2–3 paragraphs detailing the ways in the artifacts illustrate your accomplishments or growth in the competency so reviewers can easily understand your achievements and strengths. Place this in the corresponding ePortfolio area with your chosen artifacts.
For the Competency 8 section of your ePortfolio, include a professional resume that highlights your professional standards and values. You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.

Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.

Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.

The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.
