This guide will demonstrate how to complete the Walden University Discussion 2: Advocating Through Policy assignment based on general principles of academic writing. Here, we will show you the A, B, Cs of completing an academic paper, irrespective of the instructions. After guiding you through what to do, the guide will leave one or two sample essays at the end to highlight the various sections discussed below.
How to Research and Prepare for Discussion 2: Advocating Through Policy
Whether one passes or fails an academic assignment such as the Walden University Discussion 2: Advocating Through Policy depends on the preparation done beforehand. The first thing to do once you receive an assignment is to quickly skim through the requirements. Once that is done, start going through the instructions one by one to clearly understand what the instructor wants. The most important thing here is to understand the required format—whether it is APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.
After understanding the requirements of the paper, the next phase is to gather relevant materials. The first place to start the research process is the weekly resources. Go through the resources provided in the instructions to determine which ones fit the assignment. After reviewing the provided resources, use the university library to search for additional resources. After gathering sufficient and necessary resources, you are now ready to start drafting your paper.
How to Write the Introduction for Discussion 2: Advocating Through Policy
The introduction for the Walden University Discussion 2: Advocating Through Policy is where you tell the instructor what your paper will encompass. In three to four statements, highlight the important points that will form the basis of your paper. Here, you can include statistics to show the importance of the topic you will be discussing. At the end of the introduction, write a clear purpose statement outlining what exactly will be contained in the paper. This statement will start with “The purpose of this paper…” and then proceed to outline the various sections of the instructions.
How to Write the Body for Discussion 2: Advocating Through Policy
After the introduction, move into the main part of the Discussion 2: Advocating Through Policy assignment, which is the body. Given that the paper you will be writing is not experimental, the way you organize the headings and subheadings of your paper is critically important. In some cases, you might have to use more subheadings to properly organize the assignment. The organization will depend on the rubric provided. Carefully examine the rubric, as it will contain all the detailed requirements of the assignment. Sometimes, the rubric will have information that the normal instructions lack.
Another important factor to consider at this point is how to do citations. In-text citations are fundamental as they support the arguments and points you make in the paper. At this point, the resources gathered at the beginning will come in handy. Integrating the ideas of the authors with your own will ensure that you produce a comprehensive paper. Also, follow the given citation format. In most cases, APA 7 is the preferred format for nursing assignments.
How to Write the Conclusion for Discussion 2: Advocating Through Policy
After completing the main sections, write the conclusion of your paper. The conclusion is a summary of the main points you made in your paper. However, you need to rewrite the points and not simply copy and paste them. By restating the points from each subheading, you will provide a nuanced overview of the assignment to the reader.
How to Format the References List for Discussion 2: Advocating Through Policy
The very last part of your paper involves listing the sources used in your paper. These sources should be listed in alphabetical order and double-spaced. Additionally, use a hanging indent for each source that appears in this list. Lastly, only the sources cited within the body of the paper should appear here.

Discussion 2: Advocating Through Policy
Randi,
Excellent and informative PowerPoint on staffing ratios in Michigan. In an article by Keller et al. (2013) the authors described the financial impact of staffing acuity. The authors claim that when “hospitals allow departments to staff to acuity there are five fewer deaths per 1000 elective hospitalizations and a savings of $35,000 per life-year gained” (p.114). Additionally, Olley et al. (2016) state that nursing staffing ratios have a direct effect on nurse-sensitive indicators, patient care outcomes, patient satisfaction, clinical risk, and nurse work satisfaction. Like these professional publications, your PowerPoint about the safe patient care act affirms the need to consider staffing ratios from a different lens, and considering acuity is one way to accomplish this.

Hello Randi,
This is an excellent presentation and visually appealing. I enjoyed reading through it. Nurses are the most important people in the
healthcare industry, and their issues must be addressed. Nurses in Michigan are often overworked, and there are no laws that protect them in terms of the patients they can attend to. The slides highlighted the issues that nurses in Michigan face aptly and concisely.
The representation of stakeholders was detailed and highlighted all personnel who can help address the issue. Society plays a considerable role in nursing by creating a suitable environment that allows nurses to practice and attend to their patients. Researchers help uncover issues and develop solutions that can advance the practice forward (Pollock et al., 2021). The Michigan Patient Care Act bill was a bill that would address this issue (Michigan HB4482 | 2021-2022 | 101st legislature, n.d.). It would monitor the nurse-to-patient ratio and ensure that nurses are not overworked.

Hello Randi. Thanks for the insightful presentation. From your discussion, I have learned that, in Michigan, an increase in a nurse’s workload by one surgical patient increases the likelihood of an inpatient dying within 30 days by 7%” (Ball et al., 2018). You created a persuasive PowerPoint that resonates with the audience. The clarity of your presentation has been achieved through the incorporation of concise and stylish bullet points. Also, there is the use of clear and concise language devoid of jargon. The quality of presentation has been enhanced through the use visuals to help explain some of your major points (Nowak et al., 2017). All the visuals are high quality and appropriately sized for the screen. All the important stakeholders have been incorporated including individual nurses, nursing educators, Administrators, Researchers, and Physicians. It is always great to see a presentation that achieves its goals, and it sounds like your strategy proposal did just that (Sakulin et al., 2021). In order to ensure that future presentations also succeed, it might be helpful to reflect on what made this one successful. Was it the use of clear visuals? The distribution of information evenly throughout the talk? The Passionate delivery? All of these factors likely played a role, but by taking the time to dissect what specifically worked well, you can help to replicate these results in the future. Congratulations on putting together a winning presentation!
