How to Research and Prepare for Discussion 2: Your Leadership Profile

Whether one passes or fails an academic assignment such as the Walden University  Discussion 2: Your Leadership Profile depends on the preparation done beforehand. The first thing to do once you receive an assignment is to quickly skim through the requirements. Once that is done, start going through the instructions one by one to clearly understand what the instructor wants. The most important thing here is to understand the required format—whether it is APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.

After understanding the requirements of the paper, the next phase is to gather relevant materials. The first place to start the research process is the weekly resources. Go through the resources provided in the instructions to determine which ones fit the assignment. After reviewing the provided resources, use the university library to search for additional resources. After gathering sufficient and necessary resources, you are now ready to start drafting your paper.

How to Write the Introduction for  Discussion 2: Your Leadership Profile

The introduction for the Walden University  Discussion 2: Your Leadership Profile is where you tell the instructor what your paper will encompass. In three to four statements, highlight the important points that will form the basis of your paper. Here, you can include statistics to show the importance of the topic you will be discussing. At the end of the introduction, write a clear purpose statement outlining what exactly will be contained in the paper. This statement will start with “The purpose of this paper…” and then proceed to outline the various sections of the instructions.

How to Write the Body for  Discussion 2: Your Leadership Profile

After the introduction, move into the main part of the  Discussion 2: Your Leadership Profile  assignment, which is the body. Given that the paper you will be writing is not experimental, the way you organize the headings and subheadings of your paper is critically important. In some cases, you might have to use more subheadings to properly organize the assignment. The organization will depend on the rubric provided. Carefully examine the rubric, as it will contain all the detailed requirements of the assignment. Sometimes, the rubric will have information that the normal instructions lack.

Another important factor to consider at this point is how to do citations. In-text citations are fundamental as they support the arguments and points you make in the paper. At this point, the resources gathered at the beginning will come in handy. Integrating the ideas of the authors with your own will ensure that you produce a comprehensive paper. Also, follow the given citation format. In most cases, APA 7 is the preferred format for nursing assignments.

How to Write the Conclusion for  Discussion 2: Your Leadership Profile

After completing the main sections, write the conclusion of your paper. The conclusion is a summary of the main points you made in your paper. However, you need to rewrite the points and not simply copy and paste them. By restating the points from each subheading, you will provide a nuanced overview of the assignment to the reader.

How to Format the References List for  Discussion 2: Your Leadership Profile

The very last part of your paper involves listing the sources used in your paper. These sources should be listed in alphabetical order and double-spaced. Sample Answer for NURS 6053 Discussion 2: Your Leadership Profile

Leadership skills are essential aspects which an effective leader should own. Certainly, most people appointed to leadership posts may lack leadership abilities. The University of the People (n.d.) notes that having an outgoing personality is vital in allowing leaders to take control and coexist with others. This paper tables the outcomes of my uppermost signature themes from finalizing the StrengthsFinder assessment and discusses core values, strengths, and characteristics that I need to improve based on the assessment results.

According to Thomas (2018), organizational culture is defined as the various beliefs, values, assumptions, and interactive strategies contributing to an organization’s unique social and psychological environment. Positive working culture is developed when employees and employees share aligned values with each other and the organization. To ensure the success of organizational culture, the first step is for all employees and employers to clearly understand the organization’s values and the belief of the organization. Barriers caused by an organizational culture can cause nursing leaders to feel powerless, and one of those barriers is a negative environment. For example, having a facility or hospital poorly managed by administration personnel or having an administration team that does not communicate with front-line staff creates low workplace morale. When there is a negative environment created around front-line staff, there is a lack of production, increased call-outs, and high turnover rates. “Authority Is maintained centrally, reducing the effectiveness of front-line staff” (Jackson et al., 2021). Employees begin to feel excluded start to feel that the facility or hospital is not ensuring their beliefs and values stay aligned in the best interest of the patients.

The uppermost signature themes of fortes that appeared from completing the StrengthsFinder assessment instrument included self-assurance, relator, strategic, responsibility, and restorative. The self-assurance theme assists me to have faith in taking risks and facing challenges, while the relator theme helps me connect with all people. The strategic signature guides me in locating the best itinerary by sorting through the confusion. In contrast, the signature theme of responsibility is vital in guiding me to assume charge in anything I do. Finally, the restorative signature theme is valuable in regurgitating me to resolve challenges.

I would like to rehabilitate the core values of adaptability and understanding. Coping involves learning that problems are part of work (Riley, 2021). Conversely, understanding consists in learning to accept challenges and avoid fighting against the way people are, and the world is (Riley, 2021). Reinforcing these core values will help me to embrace problems.

The strengths that I strive to enhance are delegating and communicating. Delegating roles ensure that the workers’ autonomy is kept (Leading Effectively Staff, 2021). On the other hand, communication is vital in helping a leader relay information and listen efficiently. Communication and delegating are essential in building effectiveness in organizational culture.

The characteristics that I seek to reinforce are self-awareness and situation awareness. Self-awareness pertains to knowing personal strengths and weaknesses, while situation awareness involves knowing what is happening around oneself (IMD, 2021). Understanding oneself and situations allows for better response in the rise of diverse happenings.

All leaders require skills and behavior to offer quality leadership effectively. However, some skills and behavior might likely be missing, thus hindering effective leadership. I agree that having an outgoing personality is necessary for leaders to take control of others. From your post, the StrenghtsFinder assessment instrument includes responsibility, self-assurance, relator, restorative and relator. In this case, the self-assurance theme is effective in helping one face challenges and take risks. Therefore, self-assurance relates to self-confidence, thus allowing people to have the strength of staking the claims (Faust, 2018). Relator theme is essential in creating a connection with all people. In this way, the relator theme effectively collaborates at the workplace to achieve the same goal.

The strategic signature effectively locates the best itinerary by sorting the confusion. An individual can effectively accomplish the assigned task by implementing the strategic signature, which makes things be accomplished in the best order. The theme of responsibility helps an individual assume charges for anything they do. Lastly, a restorative signature is effective in resolving challenges.

I agree with you that it is essential to rehabilitate understanding and adaptability. In this case, it is necessary to understand that coping requires an individual to understand the intensity of a problem. Additionally, adaptability helps in accepting the challenges, thus avoiding fighting against others (Cleveland Clinic, 2021). Therefore, incorporating the two values helps in embracing the problems.

Delegating and communicating strengths is essential to all individuals and thus requires strengthening. In this way, delegating helps an individual ensure that the workers’ autonomy is well kept. Communication helps create a strong bond and makes a leader rely on the information. I agree that it is necessary to reinforce is situational awareness and self-awareness. Self-awareness helps determine personal strengths and weaknesses, thus creating room for perfecting. Situation awareness creates a chance for an individual to respond better when there is a rise in diversity.

Thank you for your discussion post. You identified your strengths to enhance to be communication and delegating, which are essential in building effectiveness in organizational culture, as you noted. Enhancing leadership includes being a competent leader that can effectively communicate (Duggan et al., 2015). People exceptionally talented in the communication theme generally find it easy to put their thoughts into words. (Gallup, 2017). Communication is an important value for a good leadership. I have experience this often that especially when I’m given the leadership role for people to follow there is a need for an effective communication for the people to be able to follow. In as much as one wants to communicate effectively there is always a need for one listen so that everybody has a good understanding of what’s needs to be done.

To become effective with any of these skills it comes with time and being knowledgeable of what’s needs to be communicated. Communication and delegation are two essential parts of leadership. When power and authority are delegated to leadership, they have more freedom to work autonomously and experience a range of positive outcomes such as job satisfaction, organizational commitment, innovative behavior, and task performance. (Zhang et al., 2017). Communication is not only about talking but being a good listener is a two-way street. The give and take of genuine conversation are essential to understanding and being understood (Gallup, 2017).   Effective communication is the key in healthcare to improve patient care and reduce medical errors. Communication is crucial as a leader; learning to delegate is equally important. By delegation, a leader can develop others in their skills to succeed.

Leadership entails numerous traits that can be acquired or assimilated with work experience. Some are “born leaders,” while others strive to recognize an efficient leader. For this week’s discussion, the class was asked to participate in a strength finders assessment key. For me, the anticipation grew as each question was to be answered. It seemed that some questions were repetitive in context and possibly misleading since I felt I had already responded to that question previously, but the report was an eye-opener.

Five most dominant traits

The report revealed my unique traits toward a leadership role: Harmony, Maximizer, Context, Consistency, and Intellection. But what do these five words mean to me? Discovering the qualities and ability to use what was gained will determine the proper leadership role. Now address two strengths, core values, and characteristics of the strengths finders assessment to improve.

Strengths

Two strengths that are clear per the assessment are maximizer and consistency. First, Maximizer. The theme states, “focus on strengths to stimulate individuals and group excellence” (Gallup,2021). Promoting excellence is part of the organization’s mission statement and what a leader can help develop. Maintaining core values requires reaching excellence and not accepting average as an acceptable outcome.

Consistency. The theme picked can be a downfall to build up and a strength. According to the strengths finder, consistent action can include choosing roles that fit best at assisting in leveling the playing field(Rath,2007). In addition, clarifying rules, policies, and procedures will initiate strength behind the equality of a team.

Core values

The core values for all leaders are similar in traits. For example, two core values I have developed include a commitment to diversity and a belief in the need for teamwork. Using the five top leadership traits will steer towards maintaining core values. For example, as a clinical leader, driving the individuals to collaborate and work will provide the best overall outcomes with the commitment to acknowledging the diversity within the workforce and the patient population.

Two traits to strengthen upon

Harmony. I was given harmony, and when reading the initial description, I felt amazed and then read the end. This trait allows the balance and avoids conflict. Instead of walking away or avoiding the found conflict, I must learn to understand it and then help agree. Conflict resolution would be something to strengthen upon with co-workers. Advice from my Gallup report stated: Invest in your Harmony talents by looking for areas of agreement. During discussions, look for the practical side of things. Help others see this practical side. It is the starting point of agreement. And in so doing, you are helping to manage conflict(Gallup,2021). Building and strengthening the staff or team building would help team members manage conflict. We find common ground and build upon it with each individual’s assistance to maintain the team’s ultimate goal.

Context. People exceptionally talented in the Context theme enjoy thinking about the past. They understand the present by researching its history(Gallup,2021). Context trait is the next theme to strengthen upon by seeking out current and future evidence-based research. Context can be an essential part of the needed leadership style. Using EBP has been associated with improved patient outcomes, reduced medical errors, and less staff turnover(Tang & Hudson,2019).

Sample Answer 5 for NURS 6053 Discussion 2: Your Leadership Profile

My top five themes are strategic, self-assurance, deliberative, maximizer, and command. Being strategic means that when faced with certain challenges I can create alternative ways to proceed. I can spot patterns and issues that repeat themselves. Self-assurance is being confident in my abilities, I am always confident that my decision is right since I have an inner compass that guides me. Being deliberative means that I am always very serious when making decisions and I always anticipate challenges. I am a maximizer in that I always want the best and I use my strengths to excel in my personal life and my work life. The command theme means that I always take control of situations.

The core values I would like to strengthen are loyalty and honesty. Being loyal means that I have a strong allegiance towards people and my organization (Kerns, 2017). Loyalty ensures that I can interact well with my co-workers and they trust me. Teamwork is easily achieved through loyalty. Honesty means that I am always truthful to my colleagues and patients. When people are honest a sense of trust is established.

The characteristics that I would like to strengthen are interpersonal communication and flexibility. Interpersonal communication is interacting with people in a way that is genuine (Buenaventura, 2018). When I can genuinely communicate with others I can give instructions to my co-workers and friends. Flexibility means being adaptable to various situations this means that in case something does not go according to plan I can reassess and come up with a new course of action.

Some of the strengths I would like to develop are conflict resolution skills and negotiation skills. Conflict resolution skills ensure that in case there are any conflicts I can peacefully mitigate them (Wisser & Massey, 2019). Solving conflicts ensure better relations and it is therefore important to solve them. Negotiation skills ensure that a positive result is achieved in all situations. When certain information is required there is a need for negotiation skills.

Sample Answer 6 for NURS 6053 Discussion 2: Your Leadership Profile

Thank you for taking the StrengthsFinder testing and learning more about your leadership style. Seeing that you have identified essential attributes that fit your personality, such as empathy, consistency, harmony, and leadership, is lovely. These abilities could be beneficial as you develop as a leader.

There are various suggestions to consider to develop your leadership behaviors further and play to your strengths. As you pointed out, upholding your principles and convictions while being committed to personal objective is crucial. Thinking about the mission statement and directing your decisions and activities by it to enhance these essential principles. To keep the proper attention and contact with others, it is also crucial to use appropriate leadership techniques, such as the transformation style (Cansoy, 2019). Building trust and fostering a stable environment for people around you can be accomplished by remaining consistent with your morals and treating everyone fairly.

Setting clear goals and focusing on performance is essential to achieve your goals and have a significant impact. Ensure your objectives are demanding yet doable, and create a strategy for monitoring your progress. Celebrate your victories along the road to strengthen your sense of success. Utilize your empathy and harmony skills to comprehend people’s demands and feelings and incorporate their viewpoints into your leadership style.

Improving your communication abilities will also help create resilient departments and successfully manage relationships (Kyaw et al., 2019). Pay attention to nonverbal indicators and verbal communication because both can express empathy and understanding. Others will be more inclined to sharing vision about personal aims and guiding principles. Recognize as a nursing leader the value of cooperation and teamwork in delivering high-quality care. Also, develop connections with coworkers and team members while actively looking for ways to encourage cooperation and trust.

You may optimize the effects of your leadership and foster a supportive and cooperative workplace by concentrating on developing these areas. Remember that leadership development is a continuous process, so as you improve as a leader, keep reflecting, learning, and adapting. Good luck as you pursue your leadership goals!

By Day 6 of Week 5

Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days by making recommendations for how they might strengthen the leadership behaviors profiled in their StrengthsFinder assessment, or by commenting on lessons to be learned from the results that can be applied to personal leadership philosophies and behaviors.

Sample Answer 7 for NURS 6053 Discussion 2: Your Leadership Profile

Effective leadership implores one to understand their abilities and styles. Nurses and nurse leaders who understand their strengths and abilities succeed and perform better in their tasks in different care settings (Broome & Marshall, 2021). Based on the Gallup StrengthsFinder assessment results, my top five themes include positivity, responsibility, arranger, achiever, and relator. Positivity means that I always seek the positive in all contexts and people enjoy being around me as their world looks better because my enthusiasm is contagious.

Responsibility entails taking psychological ownership for anything that I commit to and feeling emotionally obliged to ensure that it is completed irrespective of the obstacles (Gallup, 2022). As an arranger it implies that I ensure that managing situations leads to good alignment that leads to most effective configuration possible. As a nurse, doing my duties is not something special and it always essential to figure out the best way to get things done. As an achiever, I am inclined to attaining the best outcomes and look forward to getting accomplishing tasks. Relator as a theme describes one’s attitude towards interactions and relationships. being a relator means that I am pulled towards people.

Based on these themes, the two core values that I need to enhance or improve is my relationship with people and integrity. As a relator, one needs to set parameters so that people understand their position on issues (Gallup, 2022). Integrity implies seeking transparency and honest approaches to issues and interactions. This leads to more persuasion and inspiration to the people. The two strengths to improve include self-awareness and critical thinking skills. Self-awareness allows one to understand their situation and approaches to issues while critical thinking skills are essential to addressing pertinent issues in problem solving situations. The two characteristics that I would like to improve include my attitude and perception of people. While I am positive about issues, I have a bias for being judgmental and seeking perfection from people (Bianchi et al., 2018). I expect increased reliability on their issues and believe that they should always get the best out of their performance. However, it is important to value divergent views from people.

Sample Answer 8 for NURS 6053 Discussion 2: Your Leadership Profile

In completing the Clifton Strengths Assessment and learning my top five dominant themes of talent, which include in the order learner, responsibility, achiever, relator, and belief (Gallup & Rath, 2007). I knew I had always loved learning but never related being a learner to strength in leadership or a theme of talent. Of course, nursing is where we never stop learning. To bring the most recent evidence-based care, we must continuously learn. Being responsible has always been a core value. I respect others that are responsible and demand responsibility in myself; I have always believed everyone should finish what they start. Being an achiever surprised me even though I love accomplishing things and feel I cannot do enough for my team, family, friends, and especially my patients. To me, this was just being myself. I have always wanted to be a nurse, and I believe that when you are responsible for others, you must give 100 plus percent. Overall, the Clifton Strengths Assessment surprised me with how well it fits the core values I have always believed in.

Core Values, Strengths, and Characteristics

The strengths and core values I would like to continue to build on are responsibility and the learner. Being responsible is a characteristic every nurse and every leader should possess as nurse leaders must be able to empower our team to adapt quickly to changing protocols and procedures. Being responsible is a trait of a transformational leader who leads by example and sets the exact expectations for the team (Collins et al., 2020).  I want to build on my strength as a learner. For one, I love learning, and as a leader, I would inspire my team to continue learning and growing. Transformational leaders inspire others to reach for their goals or to develop new goals by coaching and empowering the team members to grow (Collins et al., 2020). The transformational leadership style has increased job satisfaction and decreased organizational turnover. Recent studies have shown that employees are more involved and want to achieve, are willing to participate, and are more accepting of change and learning. (Martins Abelha et al., 2018). These are the same traits and characteristics I want my patients to see in me as a nurse practitioner in primary care. These core strengths would help my patients believe in me and know that I want the best care for them and my team.
