Whether one passes or fails an academic assignment such as the Grand Canyon University Discussion: Disaster Preparedness HCA 675 depends on the preparation done beforehand. The first thing to do once you receive an assignment is to quickly skim through the requirements. Once that is done, start going through the instructions one by one to clearly understand what the instructor wants. After understanding the requirements of the paper, the next phase is to gather relevant materials. The first place to start the research process is the weekly resources. Go through the resources provided in the instructions to determine which ones fit the assignment. After reviewing the provided resources, use the university library to search for additional resources. After gathering sufficient and necessary resources, you are now ready to start drafting your paper.

Parish Agency

Disaster preparedness is an important component in any organization that minimizes the effects of disasters in the event of their occurrence. St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana, has developed a comprehensive disaster preparedness plan that is utilized in responding to different disasters. The preparedness plan details all the activities that must be undertaken to respond, mitigate, and recover from a disaster. The disaster preparedness plan for St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana is managed by the elected state and local officials as stated in the Louisiana Homeland Security and Emergency Assistance and Disaster Act. The elected state and local officials are tasked with the responsibilities of coordinating all the efforts related to disaster relief that prevail in the parish. The parish also utilizes the Whole Community approach in the management of disasters and emergencies in accordance with the regulations by the Federal Emergency Management Agency alongside the Louisiana GOHSEP integrated emergency management system.

The Structure

The emergency preparedness structure for St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana is hierarchical in nature (Kapucu & Garayev, 2016). At the top of the hierarchy is the governor of the state who is tasked with the responsibilities of overseeing the emergency preparedness and response initiatives in the state. The structure is followed by the parish specific emergency preparedness structure that has multiple departments and their heads that are responsible for emergency preparedness, response, mitigation, and recovery efforts. The top-most personnel in the emergency preparedness structure of St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana is the parish president, followed by parish chief administrative officer, parish OHSEP, law enforcement agencies, parish department of public works, and department of fire services director. The structure has other departments and their heads with the lost in the structure being the parish officer of the executive council.

Goals of the Plan

The goals of the emergency preparedness plan for St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana are varied. They include planning and preparing response programs for human and property protection in case of disasters. The other goal of the plan is to promote the adoption of immediate actions to mobilize, direct, coordinate as well as determine the utilization of the available resources for the effective management of disasters and recovery of the affected populations (Vick et al., 2018). The goal of the plan is to also coordinate effectively all the disaster management operations and provide plans that align with the local and state guidelines for emergency preparedness and response. The emergency preparedness plan has been developed to address disasters that include floods, tornadoes, fires, high winds, wind driven water, high water, storms, drought, and tidal waves.

Opinion

In my view, the disaster preparedness plan for St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana is adequate. The parish has adopted effective mechanisms that will enable sufficient response to disasters. The parish also works collaboratively with other departments of emergency response to facilitate effective response and mitigation of disasters. The parish recently built $15 million emergency operations center to increase its efficiency and ability to response to emergencies in the state (Rhoden, 2019). Therefore, the emergency preparedness plan is adequate.

Roles of Masters Prepared Nurses

Masters prepared nurses have critical roles to play in the disaster preparedness plan of the parish. The nurses facilitate coordination of care for the vulnerable populations and communication during disasters. They also collaborate with all the officials involved in the different levels of disaster preparedness to minimize life and property losses during a disaster. The master prepared nurses also ensure that the affected receive emotional and psychological support they require following a disaster. They work with other healthcare providers in determining the effective ways in which food, shelter, medical care, and clothing can be provided to the affected. They also provide counseling services to the vulnerable for their emotional health and wellbeing (Veenema et al., 2016). Therefore, master’s preparedness nurses have a critical role to play in the disaster preparedness, response, mitigation, and recovery in the parish.

it before beginning the assignment to become familiar with the assignment criteria and expectations for successful completion.

You should proofread your paper. However, do not rely solely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part, and your grade will suffer as a result. Papers with a high number of misspelled words and grammatical errors will be penalized. Before submitting your paper, go over it in silence and then aloud, and make any necessary changes. It is often beneficial to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Uncorrected mistakes are preferable to handwritten corrections.

Use a standard 10 to 12 point typeface (10 to 12 characters per inch). Smaller or compressed type, as well as papers with narrow margins or single spacing, are difficult to read. It is preferable to allow your essay to exceed the recommended number of pages rather than attempting to compress it into fewer pages.

Large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are also unacceptable, waste trees, and will not fool your professor.

The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced, and have a one-inch margin on all four sides of each page. When submitting hard copies, use white paper and print with dark ink. It will be difficult to follow your argument if it is difficult to read your essay.
