Question Description
Choose a community organization or group that you believe would be interested in learning about ethical and policy issues related to care coordination. Then, create and record a 10- to 12-slide, 20-minute presentation with audio for that audience. Make a detailed narrative script for your presentation that is 4-5 pages long. As care coordinators, nurses must be aware of the code of ethics for nurses as well as health policy issues that affect care coordination in the context of the community. Nurses must be skilled at interpreting and applying the code of ethics for nurses as well as health policy, specifically the Affordable Care Act, to assist patients in navigating the continuum of care (ACA). Knowing about ethical and policy issues can help care coordinators uphold ethical standards and navigate policy issues that affect patient care. This assessment allows you to create a presentation for a local community organization of your choice that provides an overview of ethical standards and relevant policy issues affecting care coordination. Completing this assessment will improve your understanding of ethical issues and policies related to coordination and continuum of care, allowing you to be a more effective advocate and nursing professional. Prior to developing the presentation, it would be a good idea to complete the Vila Health: Ethical Decision Making activity. The activity provides a useful refresher on the ethical principles that will aid in this assessment’s success. PROFICIENCY DEMONSTRATION
You will demonstrate your proficiency in the course competencies by successfully completing this assessment using the following assessment scoring guide criteria:
Competency 4: Defend decisions based on the nursing code of ethics.
Examine the impact of the nursing code of ethics on coordination and the continuum of care.
Explain how health-care policies affect patient-centered care in Competency 5.
Explain how governmental policies affecting a community’s health and/or safety affect care coordination.
Determine which national, state, and local policy provisions raise ethical concerns or dilemmas for care coordination.
Competency 6: Lead patient-centered care by using professional, scholarly communication strategies.
Communicate key ethical and policy issues affecting the coordination and continuum of care for a chosen community organization or support group in a presentation. There are either speaker notes or an audio voice-over.
PREPARATION
Your community care center’s nurse manager is well-connected and frequently speaks to a variety of community organizations and
groups. She appreciates your speaking and presentation skills and has noticed the good work you are doing in your new care coordination role. As a result, she believes that giving you the opportunity to speak publicly about current issues in care coordination would be beneficial to your career, and she has suggested contacting a community organization or support group to gauge their interest in hearing from you, as a care center representative, on a topic of interest to both you and your prospective audience. You’ve decided that this is a good idea and will look for a community organization or support group that might be interested in learning about ethical and policy issues related to care coordination. Your manager has suggested the following community organizations and support groups, but you are free to choose. Shelters for the homeless
Local religious organizations.
Homes for the elderly.
Neighborhood organizations (Rotary Club or Kiwanis Club).
You may want to do the following to prepare for this assessment:
Investigate your chosen community organization or support group.
Examine the Code of Ethics for Nurses With Interpretive Statements and related health policy issues, particularly the Affordable Care Act.

Make sure your audio speaker and PowerPoint software are both operational. Using PowerPoint or other presentation software, you can record audio directly to your slides. INSTRUCTIONS
For this evaluation:
Select the community organization or support group you intend to address.
Create and record a presentation for that audience, complete with typed speaker notes (the script for your voice recording) and audio voice-over recording. There is no need for video.
Please keep in mind that PowerPoint has a feature that allows you to type the speaker notes directly into the presentation. You are encouraged to use that feature; alternatively, you may submit a separate document. For technical assistance with PowerPoint, including voice recording and speaker notes, visit Microsoft Office Software. Note: Prepare your presentation slides and speaker notes for this assessment before recording your presentation. You are not required to give your presentation in front of a live audience, but you certainly could if you wanted to. Presentation Length and Format
You can create your slides and add your voiceover using PowerPoint (recommended) or other suitable presentation software. If you choose to use a program other than PowerPoint, consult with your professor to avoid potential file compatibility issues. Additional Conditions
Proofread your presentation slides and speaker notes before submitting your assessment to eliminate errors that could distract readers and make it difficult for them to focus on the content of your presentation.

You should proofread your paper. However, do not rely solely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part, and your grade will suffer as a result. Papers with a high number of misspelled words and grammatical errors will be penalized. Before submitting your paper, go over it in silence and then aloud, and make any necessary changes. It is often beneficial to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Uncorrected mistakes are preferable to handwritten corrections.
Use a standard 10 to 12 point typeface (10 to 12 characters per inch). Smaller or compressed type, as well as papers with narrow margins or single spacing, are difficult to read. It is preferable to allow your essay to exceed the recommended number of pages rather than attempting to compress it into fewer pages.
Large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are also unacceptable, waste trees, and will not fool your professor.
The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced, and have a one-inch margin on all four sides of each page. When submitting hard copies, use white paper and print with dark ink. It will be difficult to follow your argument if it is difficult to read your essay.
