Grand Canyon University DNP 801 Topic 2 Discussion 2-Step-By-Step Guide

This guide will demonstrate how to complete the DNP 801 Topic 2 Discussion 2 assignment based on general principles of academic writing. Here, we will show you the A, B, Cs of completing an academic paper, irrespective of the instructions. After guiding you through what to do, the guide will leave one or two sample essays at the end to highlight the various sections discussed below.

How to Research and Prepare for DNP 801 Topic 2 Discussion 2

Whether one passes or fails an academic assignment such as the Grand Canyon University   DNP 801 Topic 2 Discussion 2 depends on the preparation done beforehand. The first thing to do once you receive an assignment is to quickly skim through the requirements. Once that is done, start going through the instructions one by one to clearly understand what the instructor wants. The most important thing here is to understand the required format—whether it is APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.

After understanding the requirements of the paper, the next phase is to gather relevant materials. The first place to start the research process is the weekly resources. Go through the resources provided in the instructions to determine which ones fit the assignment. After reviewing the provided resources, use the university library to search for additional resources. After gathering sufficient and necessary resources, you are now ready to start drafting your paper.

How to Write the Introduction for DNP 801 Topic 2 Discussion 2

The introduction for the Grand Canyon University   DNP 801 Topic 2 Discussion 2 is where you tell the instructor what your paper will encompass. In three to four statements, highlight the important points that will form the basis of your paper. Here, you can include statistics to show the importance of the topic you will be discussing. At the end of the introduction, write a clear purpose statement outlining what exactly will be contained in the paper. This statement will start with “The purpose of this paper…” and then proceed to outline the various sections of the instructions.

How to Write the Body for DNP 801 Topic 2 Discussion 2

After the introduction, move into the main part of the DNP 801 Topic 2 Discussion 2 assignment, which is the body. Given that the paper you will be writing is not experimental, the way you organize the headings and subheadings of your paper is critically important. In some cases, you might have to use more subheadings to properly organize the assignment. The organization will depend on the rubric provided. Carefully examine the rubric, as it will contain all the detailed requirements of the assignment. Sometimes, the rubric will have information that the normal instructions lack.

Another important factor to consider at this point is how to do citations. In-text citations are fundamental as they support the arguments and points you make in the paper. At this point, the resources gathered at the beginning will come in handy. Integrating the ideas of the authors with your own will ensure that you produce a comprehensive paper. Also, follow the given citation format. In most cases, APA 7 is the preferred format for nursing assignments.

How to Write the Conclusion for DNP 801 Topic 2 Discussion 2

After completing the main sections, write the conclusion of your paper. The conclusion is a summary of the main points you made in your paper. However, you need to rewrite the points and not simply copy and paste them. By restating the points from each subheading, you will provide a nuanced overview of the assignment to the reader.

How to Format the References List for DNP 801 Topic 2 Discussion 2

The very last part of your paper involves listing the sources used in your paper. These sources should be listed in alphabetical order and double-spaced. Additionally, use a hanging indent for each source that appears in this list. Lastly, only the sources cited within the body of the paper should appear here.

REPLY TO DISCUSSION

I wanted to ensure you are aware of the TRIP (turning research into practice) database for finding current research on your DNP DPI Project concept or question. I think you will find it a very good tool for you to assess a quick search. Take care, Dr. Etheridge

Thank you Dr. I was not aware of this site.

I will look it up.

Thank you! This is very helpful.

Writing in general is something I truly enjoy doing but writing a fiction essay and demonstrating scholarly writing skills tends to differ quite surprisingly. That is the focus of scholarly writing deems from research upon research of appropriate material that is peer-reviewed and within the scope of study of the research that you are testing in your paper (Irvin, 2019). It is important to have several scholarly sources that are present in the past five years that share a common relationship with the reader, your research needs to reflect your theory so the readers can be on board with your idea that lead for improvement in your present material. Writing a scholarly paper has many steps to follow in developing a well written paper for your research it has to have the right balance of a literature review, testing of your theory, a development into what you want the reader to obtain, learning to write in your own words what you gain from your review of the research way so that you are not plagiarizing in any form and you must be sure to cite all the material correctly to give credit where credit is due (Walden University, 2021).

A Doctor of Nurse Practice (DNP) and a Doctor of Philosophy in nursing (PhD) have similarities in that they are both research focused. However, having a PhD in nursing means that the research that is done is research that is original. Meaning, the PhD of nursing is finding groundbreaking research that will create new processes in healthcare. PhD grads are “prepared for careers as nurse scholars to conduct research that advances the discipline of nursing, health, and health care quality” (Johns Hopkins University, 2022). DNP grads are prepared “to become expert clinicians by applying research and knowledge to create more efficient practices and better patient outcomes” (Thomas, 2018). The DNP program involves research, but the difference is that the DNP uses the research and evidence-based processes created by the PhD. The DNP is focused on “quality improvement” and improved patient outcomes.

I think the hardest part for me with writing a scholarly paper is finding the right research that is appropriate for my theory, I have not ever had a hard time with wiring in my own words, but it is the concerned that the material for the literature review is not the right choice or right research. So, it will be one of the areas I will need to real focus on to be successful. As far as citing material in APA format it does worry me some as again it has been quite some time since I wrote a scholarly research paper. I could write a prescription with my eyes closed but this is quite a bit different. So, the truth is I will need to really buckle down a get myself familiar with the library and some of the amazing resources that are at our fingertips. I cannot wait to get started on the literature review.

I appreciate your comments about the difference between writing in general and scholarly writing. This is so true, as a Doctorate, scholarly writing is an expectation and requires not only opinion but now the reason for your opinion is based on sound research. Nice post.

My struggles align very closely with yours. Even though I have been using APA through several programs, it is always a struggle.

PERRLA is an add-on program for Microsoft Word that has been a lifesaver. It holds all my references and will even search for the article information, so you do not have to enter it then place it in the correct APA format. PERRLA even does the entire paper set up, so margins, headings, and title page are all following the APA version needed. It has been a massive help with formatting.

Finding the proper research is also a big concern for me. Making lists can be helpful when identifying what you are looking for. Lists that include specific terms to search and then add other words to broaden the search. Tags are also attached to many articles and can help guide you to different sources. (University of Louisville Writing Center, n.d.) These have both helped me in the past find articles that I otherwise would not have found. It’s amazing what you can find in the references of another article.  And don’t forget, you can always call the library at GCU for assistance. They are a great help when you need them.

Thanks for sharing the information on PERRLA. I was not aware of it but will check it out. Take care, Dr. Etheridge

It is such a great program. Although it is not free, it is worth the cost. I have been using it since my BSN back in 2014 and still have every reference I have ever used in the database. Another great thing is that you can use the online version to always have your project no matter what computer you are on or use the add-on for word. Between PERRLA and now Grammarly, writing papers will be less of a struggle.

You are absolutely right that the hardest part of writing a scholarly paper is finding the right research. There are several reasons why real research is hard: It must be new, so you need to find new ideas that have not been tried out and solutions that no one else saw yet. No one knows how to solve your problems, so no one can really help you. Introductions are difficult to write if you have not properly outlined your ideas and if you are not aware of the structure needed for your assignment. An introduction should not talk vaguely about the topic or give an overly broad background.

Scholarly writing uses a topic or a problem that demonstrate a good research based on fact and evidence that requires critical thinking includes analysis and evaluation. It is the type of writing that graduate -level professional uses in their courses. With nursing students in the DNP/PhD programs, the students are required to communicate in a scholarly manner which is referred to critical communication which is beyond critical thinking (Edmunds, & Waldrop, 2018). As expected it should have a clear and concise written communication style. Academic writing is produced as part of academic work which includes reports that are empirical fieldwork. It includes citation of resources using bibliography or references that are focused on an issue. Scholarly writing should include clear introduction, sufficient overview, supporting documentation such as evidence-based and should have a conclusion. Scholar writer uses clarity, does not use bias articles and with relevant supporting materials.

As a DNP learner, I encountered some challenges that may affect my writing but I do hope that I will overcome it. There are times that I find myself having a hard time using scholarly writing and I think it is because I haven’t been in school for a long time and not familiar with different types of writing. Utilizing correct grammar is also one issue that I encounter from time to time. It is difficult for me to form a sentence or a paragraph expressing my thoughts. Not properly using our library can potentially be a challenge for me because I still have a hard time navigating journals, articles and other resources. To be an effective DNP learner I will ask for help if I need it and on how to use the library correctly. I realized using the APA 7th edition style is helpful and guided me on how to write my paper correctly. I will spend more time learning our GCU library resources, DC Network and other sites that can help me as a DNP learner.
