Sample Answer for NR 506 Please discuss the four spheres of political action in nursing
While nurses are professionals in their practice, they continue to be patient advocates, making it essential to understand the four spheres of political action. These include the workplace, government, professional organizations, and the community (Mason et al., 2016). The workplace sphere deals with issues concerning jobs, patient care, and influence policies and procedures in the profession. The government sphere is concerned with existing laws and regulations in the nursing practice, for instance, licensure and scope of practice requirements. These laws and regulations exist at local, state, and federal levels. The sphere on professional organizations addresses a host of areas that shape the nursing practice and influence credentialing and care standards (Alhassan et al., 2019). Professional organizations like the American Nurses Association fall in this sphere. The community sphere addresses community health matters and impacts the nursing activities throughout the community (Mason et al., 2016). The sphere is important as it generates energy, a flow of ideas and concepts, and a proactive approach to work that is necessary for attaining and maintaining a healthy profession that advocates for patient needs and the nurse practitioners in different settings and nurturing trust from the community.
Interconnection and Overlap of the four Spheres
The four nursing spheres are interconnected and overlap each other even in my practice as a nurse. As a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) student specializing in nurse informatics, the interconnectivity and overlap of these spheres cannot be overemphasized. The first sphere is the workplace which entails mat
ters on jobs and patient care. As a nurse informaticist, it is important to ensure that patient care is optimal and meets their needs. Patients interact with the healthcare system to have better outcomes and develop effective therapeutic relationships. The workplace sphere is essential as it allows nurses to have better interactions with both patients and colleagues (Mason et al., 2016). A core aspect of these relationships is developing and using evidence-based practice interventions and patient-centered models that enhance overall quality care delivery.

The government sphere is interconnected and overlaps the workplace aspect since nurse informaticists can only work based on existing practice laws and regulations. The government determines the scope of nursing practice through licensure laws where in some states, nurses practice with full authority while in others, they are either reduced or restricted in their scope. Professional nursing organizations and entities in healthcare work based on set rules and regulations. Organizations have resources to distribute for effective care delivery (Mason et al., 2016). The implication is that these entities must work in compliance with the existing government protocols, laws, and regulations. Nurses must follow their professional code of conduct and collaborate with other organizations and healthcare providers to attain quality service delivery. The community sphere implores nurses to get involved with their communities to assist in promoting and attaining effective changes. Nurse informatics offers nurses the opportunity to integrate various care aspects through data analysis and application for effective care delivery.
Ethical Consideration
As a nurse informaticist, patient information privacy and confidentiality is both an ethical and legal responsibility that one must always consider. Nurses are patient advocates who should champion and promote patient needs above everything. The implication is that informatics helps nurses offer better care by upholding ethical issues and avoiding biased attitudes to patients irrespective of their socioeconomic conditions (Mason et al., 2016). As these spheres overlap and are interconnected, nurses need to ensure that they follow an ethical code of conduct before sharing any information concerning patients.

Sample Answer 2 for NR 506 Please discuss the four spheres of political action in nursing
There are four spheres of political action in nursing which include (1) the workplace, (2), the government, (3) organizations and (4) the community. Each sphere represents a different kind of political action but they are also all needed to make or have change. The workplace sphere includes policies and procedures and addresses patient care issues along with staff issues. The government sphere includes regulations which affect the way nurses practice. The Organizational sphere includes and addressed everything that the nursing profession is made up of in order to function at a high level. The last sphere, which is the Community, includes anything regarding community health or anything that will affect the health of the community as a whole. These four spheres are all needed in order to make some sort of change in the nursing profession. It may start with a policy or procedure change in the workplace and advance to other areas such as the community and organizations. The government sphere is necessary when making change at local, state and federal levels (Dekker & Bekkers, 2015).
It is not possible for only one sphere to be functional, all must be present in order for any type of improvement or change to occur. Recently, we have tried to implement a new model for caring in our unit and organization. We have hit many road blocks throughout this process and are still trying to figure out the best way to implement this. The care model does not only cover actions inside of the hospital, but outside in the community as well. Due to this factor, we have had many managers and leaders create a barrier, even though it will increase quality patient care in the organization and in the community. As nurses, our main job is to care for the patient and give them the chance at the best possible outcome. Working on many different levels and with different organizations can help increase in the quality of care for the patients every time.

Sample Answer 3 for NR 506 Please discuss the four spheres of political action in nursing
There are four spheres of political action in nursing. They are the workplace and workforce, the government, associations and interest groups, and the community (Mason, Gardner, Outlaw & O’Grady, 2016). The spheres of political action in nursing can also be recognized as environments in which nurses would attempt to influence a political or policy change. The workplace and workforce would be the setting in which the nurse is currently working. Nurses can work in an array of different environments, such as schools, hospitals, doctors offices, home health care, insurance agencies, and much more. The government has control over many policies that are put into place, including regulating things such as food, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and other laws that will affect personal safety. There are different levels of government that can be targeted as well, starting at the local (city) level and progressing to the state and federal levels. Associations and interest groups can create organizations and coalitions to help support a particular policy or policy change. The community is the most local and easiest for nurses to help and try to be politically influential. A community is a group of people who share similar interests, such as a church, residential area, or a club.
All four of these spheres of political action in nursing are very important. It is believed that nurses are are highly regarded and a respected profession, and that nurses should work together with other nurses to help influence political change that benefits both the nurses and their patients (Fowler, 2016). Nurses have an ethical obligation to try to help those that they care for to receive the best care possible, as well as to try to bring about change that can better protect their patients even when not directly in their care. All of these spheres can be interconnected when attempting to bring about a political change.
Nurses many times join committees within their workforce in order to help influence a political change. One that is recent to my area is that of smoking on hospital grounds. It is presumed that a committee at the hospital did not like the idea of patients and employees who were taking care of sick patients, having to have people outside smoking on hospital grounds. From there smoking was banned on the hospital grounds. This then reached the community level where others also recognized this to be a good idea. As interest was gained in the policy change, popularity for the change to be put into effect also began. Eventually, it reached the state government, and it is now mandated by state law that it is illegal to smoke on any hospital property within the state of New York.
