Topic 1 DQ 1: Explain the role of the community health nurse in partnership with community stakeholders for population health promotion.

aExplain the role of the community health nurse in partnership with community stakeholders for population health promotion. Explain why it is important to appraise community resources (nonprofit, spiritual/religious, etc.) as part of a community assessment and why these resources are important in population health promotion.

The role of a community health nurse is to improve the health and wellness of the community. That encompasses the nursing process but is applied to the community as a group being the patient. They look at the population, and the ecosystems of culture, socioeconomics, geography, sociopolitical, environmental, and even phenomenon. A community can be defined as a group of people in a specific location, that includes where they live, work, attend school, and recreate. Most people dwell in some type of community. The goal of the public health nurse is to promote, protect and preserve the health of their community. They provide primary intervention through the promotion of healthy lifestyles thus helping to prevent disease.

Topic 1 DQ 1

Immunization awareness and promotion is one of the focus areas. They plan educational assemblies, hand-out fliers, conduct health screenings, dispense medications and administer immunizations. They provide secondary interventions by promoting health screenings like STIs,  obesity, DM, HTN, and substance abuse. They provide direct care through public health clinics. They will distribute health-related items like condoms, and pregnancy tests, and in some communities are involved in clean needle programs. Public health nurses can be found in a variety of places including hospitals, community centers, clinics, schools, and governmen

hope you are doing create! An important statement you made in your post regarding how the public community can benefit greatly from the material and educational resources public health nursing can provide. These resources should be accessible to the community free of cost or with the charge of a small co-pay but also be provided with care and empathy. Some of these resources are immunizations, infection prevention, environmental health, and opioid crisis response (American Nurses Association, n.d.).

As mentioned in one of the ANA articles nurses can also provide other benefits such as, “respond directly to public health crises; from outbreaks of disease to natural disasters” (ANA, n.d.) With the help of stakeholders’ resources can be provided, and analyzing the needs of the community. For example, during the pandemic, PHN and stakeholders, educated the community about the importance of protecting each other by getting vaccinated, offering free testing, and mask. Thanks for sharing!

Hello Bernardette,

Your write up is well detailed but i wish to had some roles of the community health nurses too, which are, they

    • Provide culturally appropriate health education on topics related to chronic disease prevention, physical activity, and nutrition
    • Advocate for underserved individuals or communities to receive services and resources to address health needs
    • Collect data and relay information to stakeholders to inform programs and policies
    • Provide informal counseling, health screenings, and referrals
    • Build community capacity to address health issues
    • Address social determinants of health (Rural Health Information Hub, 2020)

I love all of the ways and examples a public health nurse how they help the community. The Public health nurse (PHN) works to improve the community first by setting the policies and procedures in order to carry out the proper plan of action. PHN planning for health improvement occurs at both the local and state levels, including systematic alignment of resources for health improvement strategic planning (Green, 2018). The PHN works with the low income and uninsured community and I like how you talked about the free supplies such as pregnancy and STI prevention. So it is important for the PHN to collaborate with stakeholders in order to receive the proper supplies to hand out to prevent the spread of diseases in the community.

Community health nurses therefore play a supervisory role in ensuring they regulate and control the health behavior within a community. Nurses and other community health practitioners could use advocacy in ensuring they lobby for various health promotion plans and strategies that are aimed at solving some of the health challenges within the community (Sykes, 2017). The primary role of community nurses in collaboration with the community stakeholders is to guide them on healthy practices which promote healthy living within the community. For example, community health nurses could decide to enlighten the community in championing the construction of a decent toilet by every household within the community (Guzys, 2020). Through this, the nurse will provide primary care through various community stakeholders who play a role in prevention of potential diseases that might harm the community.

Topic 1 DQ 1

Appraising community resources like religious and nonprofit making organizations in the community is vital in enhancing community participation in health promotion. For instance, religious institutions are against some social acts that can encourage the spread of disease like premarital sex. It is important for community resources to be appraised because it gives comprehensive information about current health status, needs and issues in the community. The information that is gathered can help to develop a plan for the community health improvement by justifying how and where resources should be allocated to better meet the needs of the community (Sang, 2020). A few benefits would be improved organizational and community coordination and collaboration, as well as increased knowledge about the public’s health and the interconnectedness of activities. The use and availability of community resources provide support of prevention plans in the community.

Hello  health promotion is an extremely important part of nursing responsibilities. Regardless of the context of health care setting, community nurses are in a much better position to implement health promotion strategies and preventive measures. One of the more important elements in the nurse’s activities to promote better health among patients is having patients realize that they – alone – can truly impact their own wellness. “A person’s lifestyle has a major effect on his or her health,” write Brobeck et al.,(2011, p. 3322). Community nurses, hence, must teach patients that they are in control of their own health-related destiny. The amount of effort that they will invest into living healthy lifestyle and eliminating harmful habits, will predict how healthy they will be in the future – for some in the very near future.Topic 1 DQ 1: Explain the role of the community health nurse in partnership with community stakeholders for population health promotion.

I totally support your opinion on the role of community health nurse. By offering basic, secondary, and tertiary healthcare services, population health promotion aims to enhance the community’s quality of life. In order to manage and regulate the community member’s health behavior, the community health nurse should take on a supervisory role. The nurse’s main responsibility in a relationship with community stakeholders is to direct and advise the populace on the right step to take to ensure a conducive environment. Finding community health issues and treating patients who might not have access to or the means to pay for medical care are two of a community health nurse’s main responsibilities EveryNurse Staff. A community health nurse has a role to play during the community health nursing promotion to ensure that they assist the community in fighting infectious diseases—the primary function of community health nurses in the provision of treatment of various infections to patients. Nurses are entitled to treat patients who are presented with diseases. Community health nurses also have the role of providing education to the community during health promotion (Dols et al., 2021). Education service is supplied through the planning of assemblies, conducting health screenings, and hand-out fliers. The community health nurse has the role of ensuring health-related items are distributed to the community to health in improving the health of the population.

It is important to appraise the community resources as the larger scheme for community assessment because the existence of these resources will inform the strategic health promotion programs developed to target the community and promote healthy behavior (Maier et al., 2018). Appraising the nonprofit organizations, spiritual and religious aspects within the community helps with developing responsive plans that could be used to synthesize community health programs and encourage a set of diverse community health strategies.

These resources are important in the population health promotion since they establish a basis for evaluating the key health promotion programs within the community (King et al., 2022). Nurses can also take advantage of the stakeholders within the community to organize for meetings where they can enlighten the community on healthy behavior and various health promotion strategies.

The community health nurse assumes partnership with the community stakeholders by providing guidance and education on healthy lifestyles that can promote wholesome living of the community. One of the primary goals of the community health nurse is to help the community stakeholders identify ways to transform unhealthy behaviors, such as smoking, by working collaboratively with patients to better understand their personal situation, with the hope of enabling them to engage in a productive manner in health promotion now and in the future (Bright & Burdett, 2019).  Community resource appraisal is imperative to determine the availability of community resources such as religious and nonprofit contributions in health promotion.

Topic 1 DQ 1

For example, religious institutions may have an existing program as it relates to abstaining from premarital sex which subsequently impacts the spread of sexually transmitted infections. Narratives that a community has about itself may also be thought of as a resource for community health improvement (Kavanagh et al., 2022). The prevalence of nonprofit organizations in the community is important to assess because they often provide community wide support and education on various health promotion topics. Collaboration with the existing resources in the community will help bring substantial health benefits to the sizeable number of community stakeholders.

Concepts in Community and Public Health

Community health nurses coordinate with other community stakeholders to conduct a population health promotion. The primary responsibility of the community health nurses is to undertake a literacy program that would enable a community to promote healthy living. The nurses and other stakeholders, such as administrators, can inform the population on how it should solve some healthcare problems. For instance, Istifada and Rekawati (2019) acknowledge that nurses promote healthy behaviors among communities concerning the risk of cardiovascular disease. Nurses guide the communities on healthy eating, physical activity, alcoholism, smoking, and mental health.

Topic 1 DQ 1

Nurses can also conduct counseling and mentorship sessions within the community to help individuals overcome their unwanted habits (Allender, Rector, Rector, & Warner, 2013). For example, people struggling with alcoholism and smoking can only overcome through guidance. Nurses can introduce smoking cessation programs to these individuals and help them overcome smoking. Thus, community healthcare nurses are integral to improving community health through promotional programs.

Topic 1 DQ 1

Appraising community resources such as religious and non-profit aspects is essential for understanding the population’s social needs while delivering health services. Nurses must accommodate the religious and non-profit resources to enable them to create a population health promotion. They should evaluate the community needs that would positively or negatively affect health promotion within a specific population. For instance, when conducting a community health assessment on managing drug and substance abuse, nurses are responsible for incorporating religious communities to enable them to develop a health program that appreciates their input (Javanparast, Windle, Freeman, & Baum, 2018). Besides, community health nurses should evaluate how non-profit organizations can help in health promotion. For instance, they should check how these organizations can provide extra funds to support health services such as smoking cessation.
