BSN graduates are more responsible, with better supervisory roles, hence making good leaders revolutionize the healthcare system. Christian values are essential to embody in all aspects of life. While GCU utilizes these values as a foundational component for educational standards, these should also be standard for how students are influenced in their academic performance as well. Academic dishonesty, which is the opposite of academic integrity, plagues all academic levels. There are several reasons why I think students are tempted into dishonesty including pressure for success, lack of understanding about what constitutes plagiarism, and not fully understanding the entire process of academia. Integrity is the intrinsic belief to do the right thing even when no one is watching and is an essential value of the Christian doctrine. When students believe and practice integrity, they will be able to apply this outside of the classroom and to other aspects of life. If students are engaging in academic dishonesty, this may be suggestive of a lack of integrity outside of the classroom as well. Lack of integrity is one example of the brokenness seen in society today. It shows a desire for success regardless of the means to get there or if there was any actual self-growth in the achievement of success. Having an educational infrastructure based on Christian values will not only foster academic success but will support students to apply these values beyond the classroom and become a part of their daily lives.

Advanced aging and the diverse American population necessitate a high level of patient care expertise. The majority of elderly patients have chronic illnesses that necessitate high-quality skills and knowledge for better care outcomes. Judith, I like how you pointed out the practice of Nurse Practitioners. It is so dramatically different from state to state regarding scope and practice standards. I’m proud to say Washington has very few restrictions. New Mexico gives incentives to NPs who work in underserved areas and have very few restrictions (Duquesne University, 2020). This week we are supposed to be diving into the Future of Nursing study and how its findings project a better comprehensive healthcare system if nurses were more involved.

Along with that, Billie created a discussion about the thought of nursing practice being more a federal oversight than a state one. It makes me wonder if we gave this unrestricted practice to NPs in all states with incentives to work in less privileged or rural areas would we be able to reach goals of meeting equitable healthcare access for all. I want to find out if states that do not use their nurses to the fullest of their education and scope lack overall healthcare delivery, wait times, treatment, preventative health, and community well-being. So if we adopted federal requirements to allow nurses to practice to their fullest, would we have a better healthcare system and a healthier population due to the access?
