Both qualitative and quantitative processes are important to produce valuable knowledge (Laureate Education, 2011). Albeit inherently different in their focus, and perhaps because of it, they both are equally significant, and complimentary as Dr. Leiyu Shi discussed. The consensus remains that quantitative processes are vital to research as they lend the objectivity, specificity and predictability numbers offer. However, the almighty objective viewpoint is not suitable for an in-depth analysis of certain complex healthcare variables and situations. Yet, qualitative research is commonly seen as the lowest of the hierarchy of evidence (Galdas, 2017, p. 2). Perhaps one way to ensure utility, applicability, and continuity of this method is to measure its impact. To put it in a terminology we can relate to as clinicians, it seems as though a “multimodal” approach to research is the safest, if not the best, mindset to go about it.
Quantitative research can be useful in suggesting causal relationships, whereas qualitative research is commonly employed to ascertain further information on a topic, not to quantify it. One could argue that mixing both methodologies may generate a better view of the topic, and the results, upon generalization, can be utilized in evidence-based decisions and interventions (Rutberg et al., 2018, p. 212).

Axel nice post, Quantitative research has a variety of properties that make it ideal for tackling evidence-based practice issues. The sample size is one of the features. Due to the generalizability of findings, quantitative research with large sample sizes provides extremely dependable results. The application of findings to a broader population is limited due to small sample numbers. The methodologies used in a quantitative study are another distinguishing feature. Quantitative studies that use approaches like randomization and control produce evidence that can be used to solve evidence-based issues. This is due to the high level of confidence in the data produced by approaches like randomization and subject control (Pope & Mays, 2020).
