Diabetes mellitus is a common metabolic disease that leads to high blood glucose levels (Amalarethinam & Vignesh, 2015). Diabetic people do not make enough insulin, or the body does not use the insulin produced. Some of the symptoms of diabetes mellitus include blurry vision, extreme fatigue, sores that do not heal, increased thirst, hunger, and weight loss (CDC, 2017). The disease is common among both men and women aged above 45 years (Celik et al., 2020; Heter, 2019). Diabetes mellitus is closely linked to other diseases such as obesity and overweight (Davies et al., 2019). Since it has the highest prevalence in the American population, there is the need to find solutions to lower the number of people affected in the American population.

The sources used, seek to show how modern and technological solutions have been created to help people affected by diabetes mellitus. CDC (2017) shows the prevalence of the disease in the American population and the prediction. Additionally, Celik, Forde, and Sturt (2020) discuss self-management of diabetes mellitus, where the patients are trained about knowledge and skills to live with the disease. The research utilizes an experimental approach to measure the effectiveness of managing diabetes mellitus between groups involving clinical management at hospitals and self-management. Further, Davies et al. (2019) use the mixed methodology to study about self-management of diabetes as a solution to the rampant cases of poor management of the disease at home. Heter (2019) researched ways to encourage people in the community to undertake self-management training on diabetes to better manage the condition in a large population. Finally, Amalarethinam and Vignesh (2015) utilize technology to statistically predict the prevalence of the disease if the current management strategies are retained.

One of the methods used to collect data is the questionnaire. The questionnaire can reach more target people in the community. This can help target a large number of participants, which helps in making the study results more reliable when applied to a large population. Another data collection method is the interviews which collect raw data from a smaller sample. In a study, this method can collect data from health experts to ensure more about the intervention methods used against diabetes. Interviews are cheap and each to complete (Creswell, 2014). I strongly encourage that you do not wait until the very last minute to complete your assignments. Your assignments in weeks 4 and 5 require early planning as you would need to present a teaching plan and interview a community health provider. I advise you look at the requirements for these assignments at the beginning of the course and plan accordingly. I have posted the YouTube link that explains all the class assignments in detail. Your initial discussion post should be a minimum of 200 words and response posts should be a minimum of 150 words. Be advised that I grade based on quality and not necessarily the number of words you post. A minimum of TWO references should be used for your initial post. For your response post, you do not need references as personal experiences would count as response posts. If you however cite anything from the literature for your response post, it is required that you cite your reference. You should include a minimum of THREE references for papers in this course. Please note that references should be no more than 5 years old except recommended as a resource for the class. Furthermore, for each discussion board question, you need ONE initial substantive response and TWO substantive responses to either your classmates or your instructor for a total of THREE responses. There are TWO discussion questions each week, hence, you need a total minimum of SIX discussion posts for each week. I usually post a discussion question each week. You could also respond to these as it would count towards your required SIX discussion posts for the week.

I understand this is a lot of information to cover in 5 weeks, however, the Bible says in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us. Even in times like this, we are encouraged by God’s word that we have that ability in us to succeed with His strength.
