Portfolio

Personal Philosophy Statement

My desire to practice as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner has been triggered by the experience I have had with patients fighting various mental illnesses, such as anxiety and depression. Through my training and experience, I have come to realize that PMHN plays a critical role in the lives of these patients. Hence I believe that I should be competent, transparent, and sensitive to the patients to make them feel well taken care of. I also believe that I should help my patients to be equipped with strategies to overcome and manage obstacles that can negatively affect their well-being. As a psychiatric nurse, I also believe that I should apply a holistic approach that honors and respects the patient’s values and foster positive outcomes.

Personal Goals

Short term goals

  • To complete my Post-Master’s Certificates-Psychiatric Mental Health NP
  • To secure a job as a psychiatric nurse and apply the knowledge gained.

Long term goals

  • To be an established PMHNP capable of offering holistic care to the patients
  • To be a leading figure in the field of mental health through collaboration and leadership.

Self-Assessment

I am a compassionate Registered Nurse with eleven years of experience working to prevent illness and promote patients’ health and well-being, providing quality care to a wide variety of patients. Even though I am still not where I want to be, I am proud of myself since I have been making positive steps toward where I see myself in a few year time. I am cognizant of the fact that reaching the summit never comes easy. Therefore, I believe that I need more training, experience, and collaboration to achieve each of my long-term and short-term goals and career objectives. I also need to work on my glaring weakness to help me develop as an all-around professional who has the patients at heart and is willing to commit to efforts that promote well-being.
