Whether one passes or fails an academic assignment such as the Grand Canyon University NUR 513 Compare two different advanced registered nurse roles with regard to ethical guidelines depends on the preparation done beforehand. The first thing to do once you receive an assignment is to quickly skim through the requirements. Once that is done, start going through the instructions one by one to clearly understand what the instructor wants. After understanding the requirements of the paper, the next phase is to gather relevant materials. The first place to start the research process is the weekly resources. Go through the resources provided in the instructions to determine which ones fit the assignment. Topic 2 DQ 2

Compare two different advanced registered nurse roles with regard to ethical guidelines. Are there any differences in the ethical guidelines that govern these roles? What situations might require one role to respond differently, depending on the ethical guidelines?

There are many avenues available for Registered Nurses within different types of Masters Programs. Advanced Nursing Practice Roles uniquely identify within different specialties. The two types of APN roles I have decided to compare includes Nurse Educator and Nurse Practitioner (Liaison International , 2022).

The Nurse Educator, whether it be college instruction or hospital bedside guidance, has a very important responsibility. Teaching and guiding nursing students, new grads and experienced nurses through gentle but firm instruction is an important balance (American Nurses Association, 2022). Ethical considerations can include providing constructive communication techniques for all facets of learning styles, maintaining confidentiality and anonymity, and recognizing potential of harm so the issue can be swiftly revised and improved. The nurse educator is an important resource for all areas of nursing, and performing this role with compassion and confidence directly influences healthy growth and success within all levels of nursing practices (DeNisco & Barker, 2019).

The Nurse Practitioner involves direct patient care and can span all types of specialties in medicine. Diagnosis and treatment as well as counseling in preventative care helps to create a healthy balance between the actual management of care and strategies needed for long term success. (American Nurses Association, 2022).  Nurse Practitioners do not just treat the present problem but also the patient’s future health and happiness. Ethical considerations include voluntary participation of the patient, confidentiality, and informe

d consent (DeNisco & Barker, 2019).

There are many ethical differences within these two APN roles. The scope of practice highly differs between the two, which directly influences the associated ethical guidelines. One huge difference is the population served. Nurse Educators directly serve the nurses and institutions, while Nurse Practitioners directly serve the patients and institutions. Both roles utilize evidence-based practice and definitive ethical standards. The response to an ethical situation differs in the fact that the educator may identify and correct situations by improving knowledge gaps and training while the Nurse Practitioner may have to adjust the plan of care accordingly and follow up with different treatment modalities.

For example: A Jehovah witness patient is diagnosed with sickle cell crisis who is dangerously anemic and needs a blood transfusion. Ethical guidelines remain in place for respecting spirituality and religion. The hospital educator may consider addressing this situation with cultivating awareness by teaching the institutions employees, which leads to building understanding and acceptance for this patient population. The Nurse Practitioner will need to adapt the plan of care to this specific situation but also directly educate the patient on the high level risks associated with the denial of the blood transfusion. The NP can help the patient define personal limits and wishes associated with the plan of care without encroaching on the validity of the religious belief.

Sample Answer 2 for NUR 513 Compare two different advanced registered nurse roles with regard to ethical guidelines

Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is a term used to describe a nurse with additional education at the master’s or doctoral level. The recognized APN roles are the Clinical Nurse Leader, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nurse Educator, Nurse Administrator, Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Midwife, and Nurse Anesthetist (DeNisco, 2024). No matter the role or specialty, all APNs have the same Code of Ethics. The Code of Ethics is a guide that was developed by the American Nurses Association (ANA) to provide guidance for nursing care that meets quality standards and adheres to the ethical standards of the profession (American Association of Colleges of Nursing). Upon review of the roles of the Clinical Nurse Leader and the Nurse Midwife, there are differences in the scope and duties of their roles; however, both are guided by the ANAs principles of autonomy, beneficence, justice, and non-maleficence (Weberg et al., 2023).

The Clinical Nurse Leader is a supervisory role that develops models of care delivery and is ultimately responsible for patient care outcomes in the health care setting. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing developed Standards of Conduct, in addition to the Code of Ethics, that include the principles of altruism, accountability, human dignity, integrity, and social justice (American Association of Colleges of Nursing).

The Nurse Midwife has 3 mandates that are based on the Code of Ethics. These mandates are used to guide midwives in their practice, provide a framework for peer review, and advise others about the ethical standards of midwifery practice. The first mandate is directed toward the individual women and their families for whom the midwives provide care, the second mandate is to the public for the benefit of all women and their families, and the third mandate is to the profession of midwifery to ensure its integrity and in turn its ability to fulfill the mission of midwifery (American College of Nurse-Midwives). Although the Code of Ethics states the Nurse Midwife allows the patient autonomy, an ethical dilemma is present when the Nurse Midwife is faced with providing reproductive or obstetrical care for minor patients without parental knowledge or consent. Legislation may exist that dictates the Nurse Midwife notify the minor’s parent or guardian about certain issues despite the patient’s request for autonomy.

Sample Answer 3 for NUR 513 Compare two different advanced registered nurse roles with regard to ethical guidelines

When I think of two distinct advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) roles, I think about nurse leader and nurse practitioner (NP). These two different roles are bound by  the same golden rule which is do no harm. However, each of these roles may have different ways of thinking about the same golden rule. For example, a patient who has had a history of being aggressive, throwing objects, hitting staff but is the father of one of the biggest donors of the hospital is on a general floor at a hospital. This patient has finally gotten to the point where the staff would like to blacklist this patient from the hospital for his extremely aggressive behavior each time he is a patient. The nurse leader may be governed by fidelity or the duty to keep one’s promise to the donor’s family to keep this patient on the floor at the hospital and not allow the staff to dictate who they get to treat (DeNisco, 2024). However, on the other hand an NP would be drawn to set a professional boundary between the patient and staff and to advocate against the harassment the staff is enduring each time this patient is on the floor.

In the role of a nurse leader and nurse practitioner, both are led by fidelity and both need to set professional boundaries, however in this one instance they both may choose different ethical guidelines to either support the business or the personal strength of staff due to their very different roles as APRN’s.

It is required that you watch this 32-minute video as the assignments from week 3 through 5 require that you follow the instructions to the letter to succeed. Failure to complete these assignments according to instructions might lead to a zero. After watching the video, please schedule a one-on-one with me to discuss your topic for your project by the second week of class. Use this link to schedule a 15-minute session. Please, call me at the time of your appointment on my number. Please note that I will NOT call you.

Any papers not well formatted would be returned back to you, hence, I advise you review APA formatting style. I have attached a sample paper in APA format and will also post sample discussion responses in subsequent announcements.

Your initial discussion post should be a minimum of 200 words and response posts should be a minimum of 150 words. Be advised that I grade based on quality and not necessarily the number of words you post. A minimum of TWO references should be used for your initial post. For your response post, you do not need references as personal experiences would count as response posts. If you however cite anything from the literature for your response post, it is required that you cite your reference. You should include a minimum of THREE references for papers in this course. Please note that references should be no more than 5 years old except recommended as a resource for the class. Furthermore, for each discussion board question, you need ONE initial substantive response and TWO substantive responses to either your classmates or your instructor for a total of THREE responses. There are TWO discussion questions each week, hence, you need a total minimum of SIX discussion posts for each week. I usually post a discussion question each week. You could also respond to these as it would count towards your required SIX discussion posts for the week.

I understand this is a lot of information to cover in 5 weeks, however, the Bible says in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us. Even in times like this, we are encouraged by God’s word that we have that ability in us to succeed with His strength. I pray that each and every one of you receives strength for this course and life generally as we navigate through this pandemic that is shaking our world today. Relax and enjoy the course!

I can say with certainty that of the APRN roles out there, the certified nurse specialist is the one I know the least about. I’ve only met one and she was a diabetes specialist that came to educate my cohort during a clinical rotation. I’d like to thank you for your post because it’s made the role far more clear to me especially in comparison to NPs. I actually just spent the last hour or so watching educational videos on YouTube by CNSs describing their role in the healthcare system. It’s very interesting that they’re working to treat a specific disease state not just in one patient but across an entire population/system. This compares to NPs who are balancing multiple diagnoses in one patient at a time.

It’s very easy to see the benefits of having a single person dedicated to all facets of one problem. So, a CNS can facilitate education and treatment for one disease throughout a hospital and then the NP can implement it on a case by case basis. Together they can ensure that all patients are equally prepared to tackle their well being.
