Here, we will show you the A, B, Cs of completing an academic paper, irrespective of the instructions. After guiding you through what to do, the guide will leave one or two sample essays at the end to highlight the various sections discussed below.

How to Research and Prepare for Compare and contrast two nursing theories.

Whether one passes or fails an academic assignment such as the Grand Canyon University Compare and contrast two nursing theories.   depends on the preparation done beforehand. The first thing to do once you receive an assignment is to quickly skim through the requirements. Once that is done, start going through the instructions one by one to clearly understand what the instructor wants. The most important thing here is to understand the required format—whether it is APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.

After understanding the requirements of the paper, the next phase is to gather relevant materials. The first place to start the research process is the weekly resources. Go through the resources provided in the instructions to determine which ones fit the assignment. After reviewing the provided resources, use the university library to search for additional resources. After gathering sufficient and necessary resources, you are now ready to start drafting your paper.

How to Write the Introduction for Compare and contrast two nursing theories.

The introduction for the Grand Canyon University Compare and contrast two nursing theories.  is where you tell the instructor what your paper will encompass. In three to four statements, highlight the important points that will form the basis of your paper. Here, you can include statistics to show the importance of the topic you will be discussing. At the end of the introduction, write a clear purpose statement outlining what exactly will be contained in the paper. This statement will start with “The purpose of this paper…” and then proceed to outline the various sections of the instructions.

How to Write the Body for Compare and contrast two nursing theories.

After the introduction, move into the main part of the Compare and contrast two nursing theories.   assignment, which is the body. Given that the paper you will be writing is not experimental, the way you organize the headings and subheadings of your paper is critically important. In some cases, you might have to use more subheadings to properly organize the assignment. The organization will depend on the rubric provided. Carefully examine the rubric, as it will contain all the detailed requirements of the assignment. Sometimes, the rubric will have information that the normal instructions lack.

Another important factor to consider at this point is how to do citations. In-text citations are fundamental as they support the arguments and points you make in the paper. At this point, the resources gathered at the beginning will come in handy. Integrating the ideas of the authors with your own will ensure that you produce a comprehensive paper. Also, follow the given citation format. In most cases, APA 7 is the preferred format for nursing assignments.

How to Write the Conclusion for Compare and contrast two nursing theories.

After completing the main sections, write the conclusion of your paper. The conclusion is a summary of the main points you made in your paper. However, you need to rewrite the points and not simply copy and paste them. By restating the points from each subheading, you will provide a nuanced overview of the assignment to the reader.

How to Format the References List for Compare and contrast two nursing theories.

The very last part of your paper involves listing the sources used in your paper. These sources should be listed in alphabetical order and double-spaced. Compare and contrast two nursing theories.

Nursing Theories

The selected theories for comparison are Nightingale’s theory and Dorothea Orem’s theory. Nightingale developed the environmental theory. The theory asserts the importance of environment in facilitating the healing and recovery of patients from their health problems. According to Nightingale, environmental factors such as clean water, adequate sanitation, light and cleanliness are important for healing. The role of the nurse in Nightingale’s theory is to put the patient in best environment for nature to facilitate the healing process (Suhonen et al., 2018). Orem developed the self-care theory. The theory posits that individuals have the ability to perform their self-care with the aim of maintaining health, life and wellbeing. According to Orem, nurses have an essential role to play in assisting patients to meet their self-care needs if they lack the power and ability to do so. They provide the necessary support for patients to undertake their activities of the daily living such as elimination, intake of sufficient food and water, and balance between rest, activities, social interaction and solitude (McEwen & Wills, 2018).

The similarity between Nightingale and Orem’s theories lie on the fact that they recognize the lack of independence by the patients. Nurses assist patients in meeting their health needs. The difference however lies on the fact that the nurse works with the patient in Orem’s theory while the nurse transforms the environment for it to facilitate healing in Nightingale’s theory (Alligood, 2017). I am most likely to use Orem’s theory in future role as a nurse educator. I believe that nursing students do not have the knowledge and skills related to nursing. As a result, nurse educators play a critical role in facilitating knowledge and skill acquisition by nursing students by developing a positive relationship with them. Nurse educators assist nursing students to identify their competencies and ways of optimizing the care outcomes of their patients (Im & Meleis, 2021). The philosophy aligns with that of Orem’s theory, hence, its use in my future practice.

Based on the required readings for this week, previous lessons and experience as a nurse, it is evident that nursing theory is necessary for nurses to offer quality care and navigate patient needs in the ever transforming and complex nursing profession. Nursing theory provides a framework that guides the nursing practice in using concepts and relationships in patient evaluations and interventions (Butts & Rich, 2018). If nursing practice lacked theory, possibly, there will be loss of separation and clear distinction of the profession. Society has historically considered nursing as a vocational occupation and not a profession where nurses are expected to carry orders by physicians and clinical officers, especially in developing countries, without any form of accountability. However, through the development of theory as proposed by Nightingale in her notes over a century back, nursing is now an evolving profession and academic discipline as well as a science. Pioneers in the profession established nursing theories and models to emphasize the role of nursing profession in enhancing patient outcomes and quality healthcare delivery. Nurses possess critical thinking and scientific knowledge as well as ideas that they can use to improve patient care delivery (Gilbert, 2020). They can develop individualized interventions focused on health promotion, disease prevention and long-term care for patients with terminal conditions.

Nursing theories help to instill identity in nurses, enabling patients and other healthcare providers and professionals as well as managers to appreciate nurses’ roles and individual contributions to healthcare promotion and patient quality care. Nursing theories allow nurses to offer patient-centered care, utilize evidence-based practice interventions in health promotion, and development of professional values and work ethics to attain better patient outcomes (Younas & Quennell, 2019). Nursing theory empowers nurses to understand the transforming health system, address the expanding care demand and improve professional knowledge and skills to attain better patient care. Evidence shows that the use of theory provides structure and organization to nursing knowledge and offers a systemic means of collecting information and data to describe, explain, and predict trends that will shape the nursing practice like the increased of health technologies through telemedicine among others.

Advanced nursing practice has continued to leverage the usage of nursing theories as a tool. Two of the most fundamental nursing theories that have received widespread application in advanced nursing practice include Orem’s Self-Care Theory and Jean Watson’s Theory of human caring. These two theories vary based on their intent, scope and goals. Orem’s Self-Care theory is organized and also properly structured in three categories including the process of nursing, the self-care deficit, and self-care (In Alligood, 2014). Watson’s theory of human caring on the other hand is complex as numerous of the notions involved herein propose theoretical examinations concerning the definitions of spirituality, healing, growing, morality, caring as well as what is regarded human (Sitzman & Watson, 2014). The theory espoused by Watson offers a framework which embraces humanities, science, spirituality, and art that are contingent upon abstract and biased perceptions. The objective of Watson’s theory entails utilization of abstract and biased undertaking to in the usage of transpersonal caring as he states that the rapport between a patient and a nurse depends on the nurse inspiring hope and faith to the patient. However, Orem’s theory’s objective rests on the usage of evidence-based practice to undertake various nursing practices. Therefore, the two theories differ based on their scope, objective, and intent.

Based on the above differences, I believe that Orem’s Self-Care Theory may be more relevant in my future practice as a nurse educator. The reason for this is that it encompasses objectivity in its operation. The theory has been shown to outline structural foundation concerning many evidence-based practices including the process of nursing (In Alligood, 2014). This occurs through evaluation of the process via researching objective statics in health care environment and patient results. Orem’s theory thus supports the assertion made by DeNisco and Baker (2016) that theory should be used to guide nursing practice. Therefore, Orem’s Self-Care Theory appears more suited to my future practice.

Plagiarism is highly prohibited. Please ensure you are citing your sources correctly using APA 7th edition. All assignments including discussion posts should be formatted in APA with the appropriate spacing, font, margin, and indents. Any papers not well formatted would be returned back to you, hence, I advise you review APA formatting style. I have attached a sample paper in APA format and will also post sample discussion responses in subsequent announcements.

Your initial discussion post should be a minimum of 200 words and response posts should be a minimum of 150 words. Be advised that I grade based on quality and not necessarily the number of words you post. A minimum of TWO references should be used for your initial post. For your response post, you do not need references as personal experiences would count as response posts. If you however cite anything from the literature for your response post, it is required that you cite your reference. You should include a minimum of THREE references for papers in this course. Please note that references should be no more than 5 years old except recommended as a resource for the class. Furthermore, for each discussion board question, you need ONE initial substantive response and TWO substantive responses to either your classmates or your instructor for a total of THREE responses. There are TWO discussion questions each week, hence, you need a total minimum of SIX discussion posts for each week. I usually post a discussion question each week. You could also respond to these as it would count towards your required SIX discussion posts for the week.

I understand this is a lot of information to cover in 5 weeks, however, the Bible says in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us. Even in times like this, we are encouraged by God’s word that we have that ability in us to succeed with His strength. I pray that each and every one of you receives strength for this course and life generally as we navigate through this pandemic that is shaking our world today. Relax and enjoy the course!

Your description of the nursing need theory is similar in a way to the description to Neumans System model as focus is on the environmental factors on a patient’s psychological, socioeconomic, developmental, physiological and spiritual needs (Azami et al., 2023). These SDOH have a strong influence on a patients health on the wellness continuum as well as how well they recover from illness. Lack of resources, access to follow up care or proper preventive care can lead to preventable illnesses. I work in case management and have seen first hand patients who do to lack of access use the hospital as their pcp office whether it’s them coming in for medications refills or WellCare checks. Lately we have had an increase in patients needing placement as their families can no longer afford to care for them or they physically are unable to due to their own health conditions. These SDOH have a huge impact on patients health and until addressed healthcare will continue to have the same issues.
