Discussion: Health Promotion
Reflection Assignment #3: Meeting Essential III
This week, consider how your perception of healthcare delivery models and the nurse’s role in public health programs has changed during your RN-BSN program at WCU. Identify specific healthcare delivery models that you support, as well as compare and contrast public health programs with which you are familiar. How does your academic work support evidence that you have met the following criteria?
Essential III: Evidence-Based Practice Scholarship
Outcome #2: Demonstrate knowledge of the fundamental elements of the research process as well as models for applying evidence to clinical practice.
Outcome #5: Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team to retrieve, appraise, and synthesize evidence in order to improve patient outcomes.
Outcome #6: In planning, implementing, and evaluating care outcomes, consider evidence, clinical judgment, interprofessional perspectives, and patient preferences.
Outcome #7: Collaborate on evidence collection, documentation, and dissemination.
Examine your previous academic work, assess your effectiveness in meeting this program requirement, and consider the impact this
proficiency will have on your future.
Describe how you met the essential by specifically referencing the assignment(s) in your response. In addition, consider and connect your academic experience to real-world applications.
Display your academic work related to this essential and these outcomes in your ePortfolio and reference it directly in your reflection response.
Recommended: To gather academic examples and evidence of having met this essential, refer to work you completed for NURS 561 Health Promotion and Disease Prevention and NURS 350 Research in Nursing, as well as other courses.
Your reflection should be 1 1/2 to 2 pages long and formatted in APA style. Cite and reference any sources you use.
* Use the attached NURS 561 Health Promotion and Disease Prevention assignment about drug use and misuse (in the research performed to gather the information) and NURS 350 Research in Nursing assignment about the importance of research in the nursing process.
Examine previous course work that relates to this Essential and related outcomes. Looking back at NURS Use NURS 561 Health Promotion and Disease Prevention and NURS 350 Research in Nursing is a good starting point (a paper, a journal entry, an activity, a discussion, etc).
THEN, directly referencing the TITLE of those assignments, provide 2-3 sentences describing what you learned from it. THEN, in 3-4 sentences, describe how you used this knowledge in your own nursing practice. This is your “proof” of HOW you met this requirement. To avoid information duplication, do not provide a full explanation from your original paper. NO copying and pasting. (A quick reflective look back is all that is required.)
As with any other paper, a title and reference page are required. If you are directly citing a portion of your paper, make sure to cite your own paper as the ‘author’ in the ‘References.’
You should proofread your paper. However, do not rely solely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part, and your grade will suffer as a result. Papers with a high number of misspelled words and grammatical errors will be penalized. Before submitting your paper, go over it in silence and then aloud, and make any necessary changes. It is often beneficial to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Uncorrected mistakes are preferable to handwritten corrections.
Use a standard 10 to 12 point typeface (10 to 12 characters per inch). Smaller or compressed type, as well as papers with narrow margins or single spacing, are difficult to read. It is preferable to allow your essay to exceed the recommended number of pages rather than attempting to compress it into fewer pages.
Large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are also unacceptable, waste trees, and will not fool your professor.
The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced, and have a one-inch margin on all four sides of each page. When submitting hard copies, use white paper and print with dark ink. It will be difficult to follow your argument if it is difficult to read your essay.
