Rapid advancements in information technology are inextricably linked to advancements in quality health care delivery, nursing practice, and interdisciplinary team collaboration. This assessment will allow you to expand your understanding of how technology can improve nursing quality and safety standards. You will create an annotated bibliography on nursing technology. An annotated bibliography is a detailed commentary on the content of scholarly publications and other sources of evidence about a specific nursing-related technology. A bibliography of this type can be used in the workplace to address gaps in nursing practice and improve patient care outcomes. Nurses are being asked to expand their role as caregivers and advocates to include fostering research and scholarship to advance nursing practice as they become more accountable in their practice. PREPARATION
Perform the following preparatory activities to successfully complete this assessment:
Choose a single direct or indirect patient care technology that is applicable to your current practice or that piques your interest. Direct patient care technologies necessitate interaction between the nurse and the patient. Every day, nurses use direct patient care technologies to provide care to patients. Direct patient care technologies include electronic thermometers and pulse oximeters. Indirect patient care technologies, on the other hand, are those used on the patient’s behalf. They don’t necessitate any interaction or direct contact between the nurse and the patient. An example of indirect patient care technology is a handheld device for patient documentation.
