Assessment Description
Professional behavior will be assessed using the “Professionalism Assignment” resource. Review the “Professionalism Assignment” resource before attending any practice immersion experience. Formative evaluations from the preceptors and faculty will be ongoing throughout the program to support the final summative grade at the end of the course. The faculty will be completing this step. Learners do not turn anything in to the dropbox.
Nursing education is theory driven. Theories are derived from the humanities, sciences, and Biblical concepts. Nursing knowledge, theory, research, and health promotion are influenced by spiritual perspectives, and ethical, legal, political, historical, and social influences. The faculty values excellence in teaching with an individual focus on the learner. Teaching includes a variety of methods, learning modalities, and prac
tice situations. Faculty provide opportunities for students to give comprehensive care to diverse client populations, and the learning environment is created and arranged to meet individual learning outcomes that are consistent with the College of Nursing and Health Care Professions program outcomes. The College of Nursing and Health Care Professions supports life-long learning endeavors and fosters an appreciation of diversity among traditional and nontraditional learners. Students are educated to provide, direct, and evaluate client-centered care while focusing on the person as an integrated whole.

Nursing theories can bring benefits to patients’ health care due to the ability to produce consistent explanations, descriptions, predictions, and prescriptions, that support the profession. Nurses’ exploration and the study of philosophy in the context of the application of theory to support and direct research and practice is evident to advance nursing science. As emphasized by Valentine, Sekula, and Lynch (2020) the interrelatedness of philosophy and nursing science leads to the need for theory to guide practice. Several scientific-based theories like the Dorothea Orem self-care theory, Florence Nightingale environmental theory, and the middle range theory can be useful to the DNP nurse. Practice-oriented Middle range theory and change theory resonates well with the DNP-prepared nurse Middle-range theory can direct practice and lead to new practice approaches and explore factors that influence desired outcomes in nursing practice (Valentine, Sekula & Lynch, 2020). Middle range theory’s strength is elucidated in the building of nursing knowledge with its explanatory and predictive understanding that allow for empirical testing and clear application to practice, education, and research.
It directs evidence-based projects and research studies by providing testable propositions and guides the
interpretation and application of the findings. Also, middle-range theories provide a theoretical path to illustrate practice, education, and research (Valentine, Sekula & Lynch, 2020). Florence Nightingale’s environmental change theory reflects in the current nursing practice of infection and because of her initiative, morbidity and mortality rate was brought under control among her patients which was scientifically proven (Gilbert, 2020). Nightingale’s contribution to creating a life-lasting change in all aspects of nursing can be taped by the DNP nurse in bringing improvement and positive outcomes in practice.
