One of the five elements of emotional intelligence is self-awareness. Explain why emotional intelligence is crucial for effective leadership. Discuss what behaviors someone with a high degree of self-awareness would demonstrate within the context of leading and managing groups. Provide an example.

There are many reasons why emotional intelligence is important in leadership. First, leaders with high emotional intelligence are able to create a positive work environment. They do this by maintaining open communication, showing empathy and understanding, and promoting a healthy balance between work and life. Emotionally intelligent leaders are better able to relate to and motivate their team members (Whitney, 2018). They are able to understand what drives and inspires people, and can use this knowledge to build a cohesive and high-performing team. Lastly, leaders with high emotional intelligence are better equipped to deal with difficult situations and people. They are able to stay calm under pressure and make decisions based on logic and reason, rather than emotion.

The reason why emotional intelligence is important in providing proper leadership is because being able to sympathize and understand what your coworkers are doing and going through allow oneself on what is needed for the situation. Emotional intelligence is then used to allow the nurse to respond in a therapeutic manner (Whitney, 2019). The type of behaviors that someone might use with a high level of self-awareness is that they would be able to collaborate and communicate with their healthcare team in a positive way. An example of this would be if a nurse has a religious background that is against abortion, so the team leader would convey that they would not need to work with that patient as they are uncomfortable with meeting their needs.

Hello Yosia,

I believe emotional intelligence helps nurses respond in a therapeutic manner, not only with patients but with colleges and other healthcare providers. Some facilities incorporate questions in prescreening to see the levels of emotional intelligence of applicants. Self-report tests are the most common, but ability tests are also used. As the name entails, self-report tests are the participant rating and describing their behaviors. Ability tests, on the other hand, involve having people respond to situations and then assessing their skills and are administered by a third party (Cherry, 2020). Having the ability to control, understand, interpret and understand others’ emotions in the healthcare field is a valuable ability that can enhance patient care and improve patient-nurse interactions.

Emotional intelligence is a good tool to become one of the effective leaders because it has a good standard of having analytical crisis management. Self awareness helps leaders to become successful and make decisions based on a better understanding of oneself and there are behaviors that are put into consideration to become a successful, effective leader and these include staying focused, practicing self-discipline, goal setting and keeping an open mind.

Dorothy,

Emotional intelligence the ability to monitor one’s own and other people’s emotions, to discriminate between different emotions and label them appropriately, and to use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior. Emotional intelligence refers to the ability to identify and manage one’s own emotions as well as the emotion of others. Emotional intelligence generally includes at least three skills. Emotional awareness or the ability to identify one’s emotions, the ability to harness those emotions, and apply them to tasks like thinking and problem solving and the ability to manage emotions which include both regulating one’s own emotions when necessary and helping others to do the same. This is studying the way that people act so that they can come up with the best health care possible. Studying the way that people behave will help one come up with a solution that can help someone without even talking to them. it’s a good post.

One of the five elements of emotional intelligence is self-awareness. Explain why emotional intelligence is crucial for effective leadership. Discuss what behaviors someone with a high degree of self-awareness would demonstrate within the context of leading and managing groups. Provide an example.

Emotional intelligence is the ability for the nurse to successfully handle interpersonal conflicts in a therapeutic way.  When emotional intelligence is applied the nurse accurately acknowledges emotions from the other person’s expressions by reading their body language, facial expressions and their communication. These traits of emotional intelligence are all crucial for effective leadership. Those developing leadership skills have credited emotional intelligence as a trait linked to safer and more satisfactory working practices.  (Whitney, 2018)

Emotional intelligence refers to the ability to identify and manage one’s own emotions, as well as the emotions of others. Emotional intelligence is generally said to include a few skills: namely emotional awareness, or the ability to identify and name one’s own emotions; the ability to harness those emotions and apply them to tasks like thinking and problem solving; and the ability to manage emotions, which includes both regulating one’s own emotions when necessary and helping others to do the same (Schawbel, 2020).

Those with self awarness are emotionally intelligent and are highly conscious of their own emotional states, even negative ones—from frustration or sadness to something more subtle. They are able to identify and understand what they are feeling, and being able to name an emotion helps manage that emotion. Because of this, the emotionally intelligent have high self-confidence and are realistic about themselves.

A person high in self awarness is not impulsive or hasty with their actions. They think before they do. This translates into steady emotion regulation, or the ability to reduce how intense an emotion feels. Taking anger or anxiety down a notch is called down-regulation. The emotionally intelligent are able to shift gears and lighten mood, both internally and externally (Goleman, 2006).
