Explain why the John Hopkins Nursing Evidenced Based Practice Model (JHNEBP) and why it is a good model to address the nursing shortage in hospital settings
Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence Practice Model
Evidence-based practice is a problem-solving model in making clinical decisions with healthcare settings. The approach integrates the best available scientific evidence with the best available experiential (patient and practitioner) evidence. EBP encourages critical thinking through effective assessment of internal and external influences on nursing practice to apply such evidence to individual patient, health population and system. Several EBP models exist including the Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice.
The Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice (JHNEBP) model is considered an effective problem-solving strategy to clinical decision-making and designed to meet practicing nurses’ needs. At its core is the utilization of evidence with both research and non-research data to inform practice, educatio
n and research (Dearholt & Dang, 2018). According to the model, research provides the strongest type of evidence to help nurses and health professionals to make better nursing practice decisions. However, before using the evidence, nurses should make a careful consideration of the research type, the consistency of findings, the quality of supporting studies and the main studies, relevance of the findings to clinical practice environment, and the benefits and risks of using the findings. Therefore, the Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based practice model uses its different phases to get solutions to nursing problems like the nursing shortage in hospital settings.
The model is good in addressing the issue of nursing shortage in hospital settings as it recognizes the value of inter-
professional collaboration and teamwork that allows providers and practitioners to have a common approach to such a problem. Using available research, hospitals can develop interventions focused on addressing the nursing shortage issue through using research findings (Haddad et al., 2020). The model is important as it offers approaches to implementing practices that will enhance care delivery through implementation of inter-professional and teamwork approaches in care delivery.
