The healthcare organization was not adequately prepared to address the Covid-19 pandemic. The Covid-19 outbreak was an unforeseen emergency that needed intensive and abrupt resources that were not readily available. The healthcare institution had existing infection prevention protocols which were essential in responding to the Covid-19pandemic; however, issues such as inadequate staffing and personal protective equipment were major challenges and it took a lot of time for the organization to adjust appropriately. The difficulties encountered in responding to the pandemic were attributes to the external pressure and the fact that many infections were being reported on the daily basis.

Furthermore, the nursing leaders have a role in the national policy making and advocacy. The Covid-19 pandemic challenged many healthcare systems and this was a good opportunity for learning. The other aspect of crisis that was challenging in the Covid-19pandemic was the ability of the healthcare providers to respond to them emotionally. A nurse leader has the role of ensuring that the healthcare staff are emotionally prepared to handle the crises or emergency (AlKnawy, 2018). The cases of fatalities reported tend to be high during the crises and there is likelihood that the healthcare providers could suffer burnout and this affects their level of productivity negatively. It is impossible to adequately prepare for a disaster because of the dynamic nature and needs emerging every time; however, proper preparations reduces the magnitude of harm suffered.
