Improved patient outcomes and better healthcare go hand in hand as better patient outcomes are non-existent when healthcare is considered flawed; on the other hand, healthcare cannot be said to be better if the patient outcomes are poor. Among the perspectives that add or contribute to the achievement of positive patient outcome and healthcare is the nursing and medical perspectives. These two perspectives have various different components as well as similar components (Zaccagnini & Pechacek, 2019). This brief paper examines those similarities and differences, as well as how both professions boost collaboration and communication to make better patient outcomes.
Similarities and Differences
One of the similarities of the two perspectives is that both of them view evaluat

ion, implementation, plan, diagnosis, and assessment as central to the care of the patients. Among the differences include an approach to take; the advanced nursing practice focuses on a holistic approach that entails the whole person and the support systems and social circle. The primary focus on diagnosis establishes how the conditions or symptoms will impact the system and the individual in terms of how he/she remains independent (Custom et al., 2019). Besides, this perspective focuses on disease prevention and health promotion. On the other hand, the medical perspective is disease-focused and evolving (Swaine, 2019). This perspective focuses on seeking out the basis of the disease process first and emphasizes diagnosing and treating a single symptom, assessment, biology, and pathology.
Collaboration Between the Two Professions
Collaborative work between the nurses and physicians is essential for holistic patient care. With collaboration, they

share problems solving responsibilities and make decisions to create and carry out every plan of caring for the patients (Sollami et al., 2015). Through effective communication, nurses and physicians are able to share a patient’s vital data and use the shared data to make decisions of improving treatment and care initiatives for the patients.
In order to properly collaborate, the two professionals should initiate aspects such as sharing decision-making undertakings regarding patients. Moreover, they should adjust their attitude towards each other to that of mutual respect. Lastly, the nurses and physicians should share responsibilities when it comes to taking care of patients. The above strategies will ensure that there is a productive interprofessional collaboration between the nurses and physicians to the benefit of patients.
