DNP Reflective Journal

The reflection covers the important and notable personal experiences from the course DNP- 815. The reflection, therefore, covers the achievements within the course and the challenges faced in meeting some of the course objectives. I have gained a lot of information and knowledge from this course and have been greatly challenged in areas of finding a mentor and site for my project and can proudly say I finally have a mentor and site.

Reflection

The reflective journal is an illumination of the important experiences which have been encountered while undertaking the course and the projects relating to the nursing practices. Most of the core competencies of the course have been achieved through the exploration of various course materials. The most significant learning experiences revolved around key essentials covered below.

One of the important essentials and competencies which were well addressed in the course is the use of analytic foundations for practice which competence include but limited to design, direct, and evaluate quality improvement methodologies to promote safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and patient-centered care. As a DNP learner I am able to analyze the application of science into advanced nursing practice including philosophical, ethical, and historical foundations. I was able to understand how nursing science frames the development of theories and concepts to guide nursing practice and determine the nature and significance of health and health care delivery phenomena. As a DNP learner this impacts and shapes how, we can interact with our patients. ,it prepares us to be able to use critical thinking and holistic thinking in clinical settings and decision making in diverse ,complex patient situations .

The DNP-815   played a significant role in enhancing system level and organization leadership thinking which is important in addressing the complex problems in the contemporary healthcare setting, and through leadership and transformational change the course made it  possible for me to understand and gain knowledge for addressing accountability of patient safety as well as quality care in various healthcare facilities and  provide leadership in the evaluation and resolution of policy, ethical, and legal issues within healthcare systems. Research by Sfantou et al. (2017) emphasizes the importance of effective leadership among professionals in the healthcare setting and their important role in strengthening the integration of care and quality. Again, through the essential, as a DNP learner, I have learned hat the application of health theories in patient care has been found to be effective in carrying out quality healthcare among professionals. These ideal middle range theories coupled with clinical research can help equip the DNP learner and nurses with effective methods to improve patient comfort, attain established goals through communication in order to facilitate healing and ensure effective healthcare delivery.

This course has effectively covered the essential and competency of enabling the learners to actively engage in the policies formulated around various health care practices.  As a DNP learner I will be able to assess the impact of the Christian world views, middle range theories , science based theories ,ethical theories , and psychosocial theories and their influences in nursing inquiry .Through the course, it is easy for me and other DNP learners to pinpoint the specific challenges within health care delivery systems.. Turale & Kunaviktikul (2019) echo the need for nurses to be more involved in advocacy, leadership, and policymaking hence showing the importance of the course. After completing the course, I as a learner will be able to conduct a critical analysis of healthcare policies, mission ,visions of organizations and healthcare facilities to advocate for improvement in the nursing profession and social justice.

Another core mission essential and competencies I learned in this course is on   how to advance in the levels of systems thinking and clinical judgment for the DNP learner. As a learner I have also developed better ways of delivering evidence-based care in the healthcare setting through the course in the use of various change models and nursing models to promote patient health . In the domain of nurses, research has found application of these theories to promote interprofessional collaboration, improve patient-nurse relationships, and greater patient empowerment (and advocacy) in decision-making processes (Eklund et al., 2019. Therefore, by meeting this particular essential, the course effectively added value to my experience as a DNP learner.

Conclusion

This course   has been highly critical in enhancing my experience and knowledge of as a learner as I strive to become better healthcare provider. A number of resources have been explored during the course, and they have also added value to my experiences. The myriad activities and projects undertaken in the course are all important in ensuring that I as a scholar achieve the expected learning competencies.
